7 ways to reuse your old laptop

8. Turn it into a downloading machine. Leave it on overnight to download during night surfing times. It uses little power and is quiet. Also keeps the bad stuff away from your main PC.

I have actually done this, then dump the content to the NAS and plex from there:whistle:

9. Home Automation - With something like OpenHab, pimatic and also a MQTT Broker. You can also get one of those cheap usb dvrs and install Motion for your security cameras.

I've got an old MacBook Air doing this as well as acting as my plex server.

Even better - use a pi for this.
How is that better than repurposing an old machine?

Same here, using old laptop to download and be a plex server. It is inside the room where the router is, so out of sight out of mind (using remote access on it).

You can use a pi for some of those things but an old laptop is "free".
