Retro Hour...

Volkswagen is introducing a special edition Polo Vivo Citi in South Africa that draws inspiration from the iconic CitiGolf. And, we have pricing…

The now discontinued Volkswagen CitiGolf still tugs at the heartstrings of many South Africans and despite its lack of airbags and ABS, for example, the model is sought after in the used car market. In 2010, the Polo Vivo became Volkswagen’s “modern” entry-level offering and much like the CitiGolf in replaced, the Vivo has topped the sales charts locally ever since.

Thanks to social media, it has come to our attention that Volkswagen is now offering a special edition Polo Vivo Citi in South Africa, which draws inspiration from the original CitiGolf, which debuted in 1984.

Key details

Official details have yet to be revealed, but based on what we have seen from various Volkswagen dealerships, the Polo Vivo Citi features classic CitiGolf exterior colours, including: Flash Red, Sunflower Yellow and Cornflower Blue. Many may remember the "Red, Yellow, Blue (not Green)" CitiGolf TV ad campaigns.

Exterior design details include contrasting white side mirrors, door handles and 14-inch alloy wheels, while a white stripe and Citi decals runs down either side of the vehicle. The Polo Vivo CITI rides on colour-coded 14-inch alloy wheels.

The interior benefits from Silver-Blue-Orange-Gray trim and the Vivo CITI comes equipped with air conditioning, radio, USB, SD card slot and Bluetooth functionality.

The Polo Vivo CITI is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine offering 55 kW and 132 Nm of torque.

Was it seriously 1984? I remember that and I would've been 3

Vee double you and me, we all believe in quality... Mmm mmm Volkswagen family.

I remember that ad, and that may be why I had 3 VWs.

55kW? So the same engine as a Citi Golf?

The same engine they use in the 1.4 Polo in general

My mistake, they swapped the newer polos to a 63KW 1.4 which makes a bit more sense.

We had that 63KW 1.4 Polo, completely gutless. Very good NVH, but slow as can be.

How long do you all think it will be before the Up! gets a Citi derivative? :crylaugh:
