Interim SABC board will reverse “stupid decisions”

I wish them luck. And in 6 months when this new board is appointed, I'll decide if I pay my TV licence again.

The unfortunate issue for the SABC is that this ship is going to take an age to turn around .. A few bad decisions .. and viewers have left, followed by advertisers .. Unfortunately, advertisers dont return on good will, they want returns, which means until the viewers are back, the advertisers will not return. To get the viewers back will require a monumental effort, as many may have quite simply just switched off. Viewers dont just switch back, they need to get enticed back, and this happens over time. In order to entice them back, will require exceptional programming (not the BS thats been keeping the SABC barely chugging along before this 90% debacle), and that will require .. guess what ... FUNDING. The SABC dont have it ... so guess what .. the government will have to foot the bill, and that means Joe Public ...

So .. basically .. you and I are going to pay to turn the SABC around, till they are eventually profitable again, at which point they will rinse and repeat this cycle, till all the wallets are empty.

They must prioritise the firing of this guy:

“There’s a decline in SABC audiences; I want to know by how much and who did the research. I’ve checked the reports that say because of local content the public broadcaster did not do well… and those reports indicate a 1 or 2% decline, how can you cry about 2%?”

Because...
Its cash reserves plummeted to R174m in December 2016, drastically down from more than R1bn in 2015, even though it needs about R650m a month to meet operational expenses.
