If India don't show, do we get points from a forfeited match?

I think it would depend on how close to the event India would formally pull out, as this would determine if another team (West Indies) could replace them. If a replacement can't be organised in time (or at all), then I guess that yes, we would get points from a forfeited match, as would Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

India unlikely to pull out of Champions Trophy

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) will meet on Sunday to consider an additional revenue offer from the game's world governing body but regardless of what decision they come to, a Champions Trophy pullout by the holders looks unlikely.

Unaccustomed to being snubbed at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings, the BCCI was outvoted 13-1 last week in its bid to stall a new revenue model which considerably slashes India's share from global events in the 2015-2023 cycle.

Unimpressed by the $293 million forecast, down from the $570 million it would have received under the 2014 arrangement, the BCCI responded by refusing to name the squad for next month's Champions Trophy before the April 25 deadline.

ICC president Shashank Manohar, a former BCCI chief, has tabled an additional $100 million and the India board will discuss the offer at Sunday's special general body meeting.

The operations of the BCCI are currently being supervised by four court-appointed administrators and the head of the committee, Vinod Rai, told Reuters last week that it was "too early" to comment on a possible pullout Champions Trophy.

Another of the quartet, Ramchandra Guha, has since made it clear he wants India to defend the title they won in 2013 at the June 1-18 tournament in England and Wales.

"Speaking in my personal capacity, as a cricket fan, I believe the Indian cricket team absolutely must take part in the Champions Trophy," Guha, a historian, tweeted.

"Boycotting or threatening to boycott a prestigious international tournament does not become a great cricketing nation."

Under the Members Participation Agreement for the Champions Trophy, there is no scope for sanctions for missing the deadline for naming squads.

Heart scare for Wayne Parnell

Cape Town - Proteas all-rounder Wayne Parnell is set to undergo a thorough a medical examination before he is cleared to return to action for English county Kent.

Parnell bowled four overs in Kent's Royal London One Day Cup match against Somerset in Taunton on Tuesday before leaving the field.

The left-arm quick complained of a tight chest and was exhibiting a rapid pulse.

Parnell, who has a history of heart problems, wanted to return to the field but the county’s medical staff urged caution.

He will undergo a battery of tests before being allowed to return to the field with Cricket South Africa closely monitoring the situation.

A spokesperson for Kent said: “Wayne left the field during Tuesday’s match at Taunton as he was feeling unwell.

“He wanted to return to the field after examination by the club’s medical staff but did not as a precaution.

“In consultation with doctors at Cricket South Africa, Wayne will receive further check-ups today.”

Parnell is one of the 15 men named in the Proteas squad that will compete in the ICC Champions Trophy in England and is expected to play a role in both the Test and ODI squads for the tour of England which is bisected by the quadrennial showpiece.

This man is not a historian. What is so prestigious about the Champions Trophy? This was a dead competition a short while ago remember.

It survived purely because India reached the final and won it, plus was hosted in England who reaped the benefits. Hence they advocated for the Champions Trophy not to die.

Those millions of us$ courtesy of India (BCCI) are what encouraged everyone to continue with the Champions Trophy. India reserrected it, they should kill it.

Boycott that CT2017 India!!!

Ian Chappell's view:

Likely to be India, England, Australia and South Africa in the semis

South Africa are the fourth powerhouse team and, even without the injured Dale Steyn, they possess a strong pace attack. They also have the wily legspinner Imran Tahir seeking wickets in the middle overs, which is a crucial part of playing 50-over cricket successfully.

The South African batting line-up is also powerful, but the team are yet to overcome the knockout-stage hoodoo that dogs them in tournaments. Despite assurances from skipper AB de Villiers in the 2015 World Cup that this was a thing of the past, they have done nothing to brush the monkey off their back.

An ingrained conservatism, especially surrounding their tactics in the field, has hurt South Africa in the past and they need to shed that approach to win this tournament.
Pakistan have the pace attack to worry India and South Africa in Group B, but their batting is brittle and lacks the firepower necessary to unsettle the top sides.
Pakistan chased down 341 aginst a very strong Bangladesh attack in the warm-ups(Mashrafe, Taskin and Sakib, although missing Mustafizur). They deliberately left out Amir and bowled Wahab late to have a decent total to chase, but with a stronger attack had Australia reeling early before rain intervened. Their top 6 batting order, plus bowling allrounder Imad Wasim at 7, makes them a bit more secure with their batting in this tournament, because unlike other teams, Pakistan generally don't don't use allrounders much in all formats. Shoaib Malik and Hafeez are actually a bonus for them.

Odds To Win Group B:
South Africa 1.375
India 1.375
Pakistan 1.625

I haven't seen odds for:
India v Pakistan
Pakistan v South Africa
India v South Africa

Sri Lanka batsmen very well in the warm-up against New Zealand's entire top bowling arsenal of Boult, Southee, Milne, McClenaghan, Anderson, Santner and Patel.

Our attack is arguably weaker than theirs. Should we be worried? Let's see how Sri Lanka's bowlers go against Williamson, Taylor and Guptil.

India have Bangladesh at 60/7. Their first choice pace trio of Bhuvi, Yadav and Shami taking the wickets.

In India's innings 4 batsmen were bowled. So far in the Bangladesh innings, there's been 3 caught keeper and 1 bowled. Batting will not be easy.

In our ODIs against England*:
1st - 4 caught keeper, 1 lbw, 1 bowled
2nd - 3 caught keeper
3rd - 2 bowled, 1 caught keeper
*QdK caught keeper-2, bowled-1; Faf our first change caught keeper 3 out of 3 times; Amla caught keeper-1, bowled-1. These stats won't be lost to our oposition on how to get us 2/3 down very quickly.

(Eng 6 caught keeper, 3 bowled)

India bowl out Bangladesh for 84.

New Zealand are 137/1 after 22 overs chasing Sri Lanka's 356. Safe to say their bowling won't be too much of a threat so Pakistan, India and South Africa will rest easy. :D
