Check your bank account for debit order fraud

And the banks are taking their sweet time to implement the measures to stop this, making a killing in the meantime I guess?

From what I learned from FNB, A debit order under R100, so R99.99 doesn't flag on their system and requires no client confirmation. I told them they were crazy and how was it now, on me, the client to dispute something that could be done every month without my knowledge or approval. Lets just say that I'm now with Capitec and have already told them that under no circumstances will any debit orders be opened on this account unless I confirm them beforehand. So far so good.

Not for anything under R100 they don't. That is how the fraudsters work. And how the banks are complicit in this.
I've just changed my incontact alert amount to R1 in the app. I don't think they allowed less than R100 in the past.

Don't think banks do special requests like that. Or even have a way to track them...

Yes they do, and not only for new debit orders. I bank with FNB and every month my debit order for Connection Telecom goes off, I receive an SMS. I have a VoIP number with Connection Telecom and my usage is between R50 & R70 per month taken off my account via debit order.

FNB sends me an SMS when there is a new debit order that comes off my account that wasn't there before.
Then you've got a special thing the bank never offered me. I've been victim of this nonsense twice and neither time was a notified until I went over my accounts and saw the sub R100 debit orders going off.

Yeah so do I for existing debit orders. Not for these bs NADO (or whatever they were called) debit orders under R100 though.

Edit: This was about two years ago so not sure what changes if any have been made.

Things have changed.

At least you have the ability to reverse the debits with Capitec banking app.

Maybe your account has a problem, as they will notify me with an SMS or Incontact message of a new debit order, stating that it is new and may be unwanted.

Pillay said the bank has acted on a mandate, which means that administrative costs were incurred by the bank which may be levied.

He said the claim for those costs will be against the fraudulent service provider which instituted the debit order, and not the bank.
This is itself fraud. Debit orders aren't instituted by the client.

I usually get as much info about the paymaster who was used, then contact them & tell them that specific client is running fraudulent debits & I will be instituting charges against them both. Seems to be working as I've only experienced this twice only. Merely stopping & refunding isn't enough as they'll be back under a different company name. You need to show them you'll go to court for that R99 fraudulent debit.
