DStv Extra package changing to Compact Plus – Free trial for subscribers

Well. What do you know. Kudos to them that everyone on Compact can trial it for a month. Such bait!

Now and again for a laugh I'll scroll through somebody's premium channels. Love it when I see "Some Came Running", Bad Day at Black Rock", Friends etc. Same old repeats still going after 20 years :crylaugh:

How can people pay for that crap?

Edit: I understand the sports aspect.

Easy 50+ channels and only so many new content coming out...

Cause you're paying for Mnet, Vuzu where the newer premium series are. The older channels are basically where the repeats go. Those are also normally the channels that go to Compact and the lower tiered packages. So yes you will see a lot of repeats as you're looking at Comedy Central (which is generally crap)
 
I said from the start I don't know what their marketing was thinking to name one service similar to another one.

Dunno. Catchup isn't currently available on Extra. Maybe they'll throw in one or two extra unnoticed channels as well. This is probably going to be their strategy going forward, move channels into lower packages instead of decreasing prices to gain customers.

Could always view catchup on DSTV Now on DSTV Extra

There's also contractual issues with the US studios basically to get access to premium content buyers like Multichoice have to buy The sack of crap that comes bundled with the premium stuff as Hollywood needs the royalties and can't flog the old rubbish to anyone except developing countries

Now that's just even more confusion. Probably because the online implementation knows which shows you are allowed to view. The decoder however just says "This service is available to DStv Premium Bouquet subscribers only" even though it's downloading it and taking up space.
