Hi guys,

I'm due for an upgrade in month and I am really torn between a Sony XZ Premium and an iPhone 6s Plus, and yes I know the iPhones older but it has the headphone jack and I prefer that rather than having an adapter.

I've never had an iPhone before but all my mates tell me it's life changing, and everything just "works" lol.

Can you guys maybe give me an idea of which one will be the better buy, in terms of performance, music subscriptions, apps and all that...

Thanks. <3

The chip in the iPhone is actually a real performer, and their software is definitely snappier than the skinned android groups.

Both phones are great, but I’ve grown to prefer the consistency of iOS. The Sony is solid though, if you want to go Android.

I was on Android for many years and made to switch to iOS last year. I upgraded to a 7 Plus this past weekend and don’t regret it at all. I thought having to use the aux adapter would be an issue, but it really isn’t. It’s permanently plugged into my Sennheiser earphones which get stored in their carrying box. You can even use the bundled lightning earpods or just go for Bluetooth earphones if you’re so inclined, so no adapters whatsoever...

Yeah when I used my friends iPhone 6 ( Non S) it was super fluent, and i saw that it was a serious performer.

Hmm I see, maybe i should consider the 7 aswell, the aux adapter thing is just scary for me.

I've used android my whole life and i think its time for a switch up lol.

Thanks, i appreciate this guys

Apple products are rock solid. My 2011 macbook still kicks ass. I recently got a iPhone 6s after many years of Android mobiles. Life's good :)

I just wanted to note that I've been using a pair of Bluetooth headphones recently for listening to podcasts on my phone, and I have no desire to plug in my Steelseries Siberia anymore. Having no wires is actually something I found myself appreciating.

With the 7, using wireless headphones is part of the package. Apple is pushing advances in their Bluetooth stack heavily, and future phones might even lack a digital-to-analog converter for stereo headsets through a Lightning adapter. I wouldn't worry about it, to be honest.

Just don't get Airpods. They're really overpriced.

If you are ready to embrace the Apple eco system and use it as an intended then you'll be very happy. If you try to use an iPhone like an Android device you'll have a bad time.

I'm on Android and I prefer BT headphones over the traditional 3.5mm type. The sound is so much clearer and distortion free.

I despise Sony for their dismal local backup support. I'd rather go for an older S7 Edge than a Sony Xperia.

I had a Sony Z3 and switched to the iPhone 6s and couldn't be happier, looking forward to getting the 8 this week. The Sony's are great devices and i loved my Z3 but the iPhone and IOS just seems more polished in my opinion.

Sony. Much newer and stock like Android. There's Google Play Music and it's available on the web. Apps are also arguably better with Facebook, messenger and twitter lite apps.

Google Play Music is on iOS as well, just like Apple Music is also on Android. Choosing a mobile OS based on a streaming service makes no sense. Regarding apps being better on Android, it is arguably as you say. Coming from 7 years of Android use to full-time iOS the past year, some apps feel (subjectively) better and more responsive on iOS.

Facebook doesn’t seem to work properly on my wife’s new Android for any length of time.

Never had issues on iOS.

"Test Drive" both of them, take the one you enjoy. Android you can decide what you want to do with the phone, the way you want to do it, and if it will work or not. iPhone, Apple decides what you can do with the phone and how you will do it, and therefor it should work. If you don't have other Apple products, I'll say go with Android, if you do have other Apple products why not add another one to the list.

Yeah...erm no that is one extreme outlier there.

Can’t recall the last time I’ve seen an app crash when running retail firmware. It’s literally been years.

However my recent experiences with Android TV and Android phone it’s an almost hourly event.

I do find it hilarious that the Google Play Store crashes the most on Android according to that link.
It updates independently from system updates and with the zillion android devices out there it's understandable.

Quick question as someone who's also thinking of taking the leap from Android to iOS.

I see the iOS Swype keyboard app has really bad reviews. Is there a good swype-style typing option available? Something that will work well with WhatsApp and email apps? How well does it integrate? Do you have to fiddle in settings every time your keyboard comes up?

Don't think I can live without swype on a tiny keyboard.
