Samsung bringing Linux to Galaxy smartphones

Hope they do this properly. Because Linux in anything with a touch screen is dismal.

I tried to use Ubuntu on a tablet, there is no way to to simulate a right click. You would expect long pressing the icon or whatever would work, it doesn't. And this I tried not many months ago.

Ever so often this kind of thing resurfaces, but is not a success either due to proprietary hardware/docking solutions, or poor performance, or it not simply working as it should.

If it can work with any[\b] kind of celphone without proprietary stuff, and deliver good performance, thrn we'll have a winner.

Until then, it remains just vapourware.

vapourware? hardly. Just because you don't have a cellphone with the appropriate hardware and software, and a dock, doesn't make it non-existent.

any kind of cellphone is never going to work, unless they discontinue everything but flagships. surely you can't expect the full linux desktop on your samsung galaxy J1.

My Rpi2 is Quad core 900mhz and 1 gig RAM, and the desktop environment is usable.

I reckon new mid range phones would pawn that so processing power for a *basic* desktop environment to browse the web/type up a document/read email can easily be done on non-flagship devices.

Yes, but is your linux running natively on your Rpi? Or is it running inside something like a VM?

Try installing Linux, and then running a Linux VM on your Linux OS... let's see how your Rpi handles that.
