I left Gordon's bay for Rooi els at 11.30 and there was no smoke but it was pretty windy and quite a bit of tourist traffic in hire cars and I was thinking
Perfect conditions for some Idiot to chuck a stompie out the window ...
Sure enough on my way back to Gordon's bay I saw the fire start around 12 on the Steenbras side of sir low pass and it accelerated so fast with dense vegetation burning and the smoke plume was enormous already reaching strand
At 12.30 I couldn't see broad lands road on my way back and emergency services were only just leaving Somerset West ..,counted several fire engines and traffic police were still parked up at GB station
One officer was diverting outgoing traffic from heading up the pass down to GB and shortly after another intersection was closed diverting same traffic to strand
Big fire . Hope they get it contained before it nips over to the Kleinmond direction because then there's no stopping it

Jeez, and November isn't even the hottest or the windiest month. A sign of what's in store perhaps?

Somebody posted a photo on Facebook indicating that the fire is moving onto Suikerbossie and into Rooiels's direction.

Rush hour in Cape Town used to start at 5, now it starts at 3.

January used to be the windy month, now it starts in October.

August was rain month, now no month is rain month.

Everything has gone crazy.
