DStv must pay for our channels – SABC

Oh look no SABC channels on DSTV any longer...
 
So DSTV "must carry" SABC, but also must pay for it?

As much as I hate DSTV, this is B.S. SABC gets the money they need from the DSTV people through the mandatory TV licence.

Well they probably saw that DStv can pay 50mil for ANN7 and now trying their luck.
 
SABC should get its ****/act together. Start producing good local content...some sport rights, even if it is only for incoming tours. Make their offering, semi decent...advertisers will come...and take it from there. One area they can really compete is in current affairs/news. The quality of eNCA field reporting/ers has really gone downhill of late.
 
I can't even remember when last I had switched to a SABC channel - Now Really ! SABC please go fly your kite :twisted:

Well for what it's worth, friend has business dealings with DSTV, he said the exact same thing - SABC3 was like the highest watched channel on DSTV.
 
It does not make sense for DSTV to pay for these channels as people are forced to pay TV license fees for these channels.

People cannot watch DSTV unless they already have a TV license.
 
I think it's unfair that DSTV is being forced to carry SABC channels and even more so if they have to pay for them. Rather take the enforcement away and everybody will be happy :D

Also, I suspect many people are on the R20 a month DSTV package just to get decent reception of the DSTV channels. It is much better than normal antennas, especially if you are in a low-lying area. If you only look at Premium subscribers I am sure it will be different.

On topic, there is no way DSTV will pay for SABC. I cannot think of one scenario (including digital migration etc) where it would make sense for DSTV to pay while you would still need to pay your tv license. In each scenario you would still have to pay the SABC directly.

I had forgotten that there were any. Silly me.
Oh there's also that small matter of a TV licence. Perhaps they should make SABC optional and then scrap the TV licence. Then we'll really know how popular SABC is!
