DStv gets nailed for “repeats”

There is reasonable repeats and then there is psychopathic bombardment...

DSTV is in the latter category...

Nailed?

The ASA ordered MultiChoice to withdraw the claim from its advertising with immediate effect.

That is a slap on the wrist and is likely to only apply to the series in question, hence they will continue to practice this conduct until the next complaint, and so it continues.

Well the ASA seems very lenient for all complaints. I mean you can really say something like Stop buying at PicknPay rather buy at Checkers because we are better. The ASA will simply tell you stop the ad and then that's the end of it. Damage is already done.

Exactly!

Everybody knows they'll just get a slap on the wrist...until then, it's open season with no consequences.

Her complaint is stupid, they never once said that it was new to DSTV, it was new to Comedy Central and that's sometimes out of DSTV's hands as those are channels they aren't in control of. Especially where Doc Martin shows, DSTV can say what it likes about it's own channels, Mnet, the Vuzu ones, Mzansi and Kyknet but it cannot do anything about the advertising of "new" content on channels out of it's hands.

DSTV must get nailed for the movie channels also. I have got the compact version and there is utter rubbish to watch for months on end. Latest on 110 is all the cheap-shhht Chineese movies from the 1920's or something dubbed in poor English. IF not that then, Steven Segal and Juane Claude movies from the Eighties / Nineties which we have also watched for the unpteenth times. Howcome there are movies on Box Office that is not making its way to the movie channels ( within the compact bouquet ) ?

Her complaint is not stupid, do you know how fcking annoying it is when they advertise a new series of something you watch and realise that it is a season you have already watche, (I don't monitor on which channels I watch which shows), So you get used to seeing new season and thinking it is a repeat and then it actually is a new season for that series and you have missed a couple of episodes of it.

All they need to do is word is as "new to channel" or "first time shown on Comedy Central".
