Volkswagen Jetta

Volkswagen of America, Inc., unveiled the all-new 2019 Jetta at the 2018 North American International Auto Show. The Volkswagen Jetta is one of the world's most successful sedans, with more than 17 million models sold worldwide since it was introduced in 1979: more than 3.2 million of those vehicles have been sold in the United States. Now based off the award-winning MQB platform, the 2019 Jetta offers bolder design, more interior space than the outgoing model and new technology. Despite all the additional premium features and technology, the all-new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta pricing starts at $18,545, less than the outgoing base model.

"The Jetta has long been Volkswagen's best-selling vehicle in the United States," said Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North American Region, Volkswagen, "and we expect that this all-new car will continue to resonate with buyers in the compact sedan class. With its combination of great technology, fuel-efficient drivetrains, sporty styling, upscale interior and amenities, and fun-to-drive nature, we expect that the Jetta will make a huge splash in the compact sedan market when it goes on sale."

The VW Jetta is based on Volkswagen's Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture. Compared with the current car, the new Jetta grows outside in every direction. It offers a longer wheelbase-105.7 inches compared to 104.4 inches-with shorter overhangs, and is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model. The increased exterior proportions add up to more interior space than the previous car as well.

Outside, the all-new VW Jetta marks an evolution in Volkswagen's clean and timeless design DNA, with modern lines and a refined appearance. The combination of large front grille and sharper lines exudes a bold character, while the addition of more chrome and standard LED lighting lend a premium feel. A fast-sloping roof line creates a sportier, coupe-like profile without compromising the usability of the rear seat.

Inside, the Jetta's fully redesigned interior combines high-tech features with everyday usability and refined fit and finish. High quality soft-touch materials throughout and new trapezoidal design elements give the vehicle an upscale, yet modern feel. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta sports new fabric colors and designs for the seats and door trim as well as optional 10-color customizable wrap-around ambient lighting. To keep occupants comfortable, Jetta will offer available heated and ventilated front seats, power driver's seat with memory functionality, leather seating surfaces, and dual-zone Climatronic® automatic climate control. A new center storage console is 5-liters-large enough to fit a standard iPad.

The driver-oriented cockpit features an infotainment screen placed high in the dashboard, to make all vehicle information easily accessible to the driver. Every Volkswagen Jetta offers standard Driver Personalization with up to four driver settings. Dependent on trim, customizable features include: driver seat memory, driver assistance system preferences, temperature, Volkswagen Digital Cockpit arrangement (if equipped), ambient lighting color, radio presets, navigation view, and more.

Jetta SEL and SEL Premium models feature a standard Volkswagen Digital Cockpit display, offering drivers a reconfigurable display of key data and the ability to position navigation data front and center for easy viewing. The available Volkswagen Car-Net® system provides a suite of connected vehicle services, including standard App-Connect technology that offers compatible smartphone integration with the three major platforms-Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink®. The new Jetta is the first Volkswagen in the U.S. to offer an available 400-watt BeatsAudio® system.

The VW Jetta's technology upgrades extend beyond the cabin to include a comprehensive suite of available driver assistance technology. A rearview camera comes standard and available features include: Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist); Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), upgraded for use in stop and go traffic; High Beam Control (Light Assist); and Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), which actively helps the driver steer the car back into its lane should the vehicle start drifting into another lane without using the turn signal.

In addition, the 2019 VW Jetta offers a combination of both passive and active safety systems that are engineered to meet or exceed current crash regulations. These systems include the class exclusive Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

The new Jetta will continue to be powered by Volkswagen's 1.4-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine, making 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, the highest in the compact sedan class. The power is taken to the front wheels via a new standard six-speed manual transmission, with an eight-speed automatic transmission optional on the base model and standard on higher trims. Automatic transmission models come standard with a Start/Stop system designed to improve fuel efficiency. This technology stops the engine during idle when the brake pedal is held (such as when waiting at a stop light). When the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts.

Every Volkswagen Jetta model will come with the People First Warranty, America's best bumper-to-bumper new vehicle limited warranty. The warranty provides coverage for six-years or 72,000-miles (whichever occurs first), and the warranty can be transferred to subsequent owners throughout the remainder of its duration.

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will be available in S, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium trim levels and is expected to arrive at U.S. Volkswagen dealers in the second quarter of 2018. An R-Line trim will join the lineup at launch and features sportier styling, exclusive interior and exterior design elements, R-Line badging, and the XDS® electronic differential.

New Volkswagen Jetta introduces sharper look and eight-speed auto

Stylish saloon won’t be coming to Britain despite being one of the company’s best-selling models worldwide

Volkswagen has revealed its new Jetta at the Detroit motor show with a sharper design and new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The model, which will not be offered in Britain following low sales for its predecessor, slots beneath the Passat in the brand’s US-line up. It has grown in length by 43mm and width by 35mm to offer improved cabin space.

The car’s more taught look comes in part thanks to its reduced overhangs, which are now 10mm and 18mm shorter at the front and rear respectively. Much of its exterior design is reminiscent of the Passat and Golf, while inside, the dashboard is near identical.

The Jetta comes available with Volkswagen’s latest MIB instrument cluster, a 10.2in Active Info Display, as well as its dashboard-mounted touchscreen infotainment system. The technology is smartphone connectable, featuring Mirrorlink, Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Power comes from a 1.4-litre TSI engine that produces 148bhp and 184lb ft of torque. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or new, eight-speed automatic. This gearbox is not offered in Britain – the most cogs available from Volkswagen here are seven. An insider said that currently, there are no plans to change that.

Volkswagen has chosen to keep the latest Jetta out of Britain because the model’s forebears had experienced declining sales. Just 379 units of the previous Jetta were sold here between January and October of last year, the latter of which being when the model was removed from the line-up. That compared to 5398 Passats and 52,722 Golfs in the same time period.

Despite its decline in Britain, the Jetta, which was previously called the Bora here, is one of Volkswagen best-selling models globally, with around 17.5 million units having been produced since its introduction in 1979

Here’s The New Volkswagen Jetta That SA Won’t Get

Volkswagen has officially unveiled its new, seventh-generation Jetta at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Of course, as CARmag.co.za reported late in 2017, this all-new Jetta – which moves over to the Wolfsburg-based brand’s MQB platform in its latest generation – will not be offered in South Africa. The reason? Well, VW will not be producing the fresh version of the sedan in right-hand drive.

Indeed, the German automaker has now confirmed that there “are no plans for a European version”, although a “sibling model” of the new Jetta will be offered in China under the “Sagitar” badge at a later date.

So, what will we be missing out on? Well, VW says that the use of the MQB platform has allowed “more dynamic” proportions, improved interior space, efficiency gains, fresh driver assistance systems and a largely digitalised interior.

The new Jetta measures 4 702 mm in length (which makes it 43 mm longer than before), and its wheelbase has been stretched by 35 mm to 2 686 mm. It’s 1 799 mm wide (an increase of 21 mm) and 1 459 mm tall (six millimetres up), while the front overhang is 10 mm shorter and the rear overhang 18 mm longer.

The seventh-generation Jetta boasts improved aerodynamics, with a Cd figure of 0,27 (about 10 percent better than the outgoing model), which Volkswagen says has made a marked impact on fuel efficiency. In the US, the Jetta will be offered with the brand’s familiar 1,4 TSI petrol engine, producing 110 kW and 250 N.m, and mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new Jetta for the North American market gains the option of the brand’s digital Active Info Display along with a new generation of infotainment systems. LED headlamps will be standard, with a tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof offered on certain derivatives.

VW reveals new Jetta, but it’s not for SA

This is the all-new, seventh-generation Jetta but don’t get too attached to it because it’s not coming to South Africa - reportedly due to the fact that there won’t be a right-hand-drive version.

Underneath the Americanised styling sits VW’s MQB modular platform, and the new Jetta has grown in every dimension, with the wheelbase also expanding 33mm to improve cabin space.

The US-spec version that was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show on Monday will only be available with one engine option, this being the familiar 1.4 TSI turbopetrol, rated at 110kW and mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

The cabin undergoes the same digital revolution as other recent VWs, with a digital instrument cluster featuring on upper models, along with a 400-watt BeatsAudio system and 10-colour wraparound ambient lighting.

Driver assistance features include Adaptive Cruise Control with stop and go traffic assist, Rear Traffic Alert, High Beam Control and Lane Assist.

Although the new Jetta won’t be heading our way, it is possible that VWSA will bring in the new Vitrus to fill its shoes to some degree. Although it is essentially a Polo sedan, the new four-door does appear larger and more upmarket than the current Polo sedan, meaning it could straddle both segments if need be.

"Nobody gets punched at the side of a Jetta"

My 2c:

- Jetta Mk7 looks weird dead on.

- Rear looks pretty sleek

- Interior looks high in perceived quality

- Total bummer it's LHD only so UK; Aussie-land; SA; Japan does not get it. Hopefully VW does another feasibility study in a few months & sees it worthwhile to make a RHD production line

I like the look front on, and the 1.4t engine doing such impressive work with that 8speed auto. Also very happy it's not DSG cause that is one thing VAG and Ford made a royal eff-up on.

But there is a panel gap issue here :

I love it. Looks just like that brand spanking new Polo and that's just all kinds of delicious.
We just need that sexy bint that demoed the polo to do a video of this and I'll be all set.

VW fails at making Sedans that appeal to the SA market, they are just too boring and look like the lesser versions of the Audis.. they should focus more on their hatchbacks and crossover/SUVs, they look good.

Is not VW 's fault. It's this ****ty local market that only wants hatches suv's and dubble caps...

Seems like I'm the only one that doesn't like the look of this car. Especially the rear looks revolting. Please keep this crap away from SA.

There is something wrong with the looks/design of the outside of the Jetta. Can't put my finger on it.
