Why the sudden boom in amount of ISP's?

Hey guys,

So I've been browsing on Vumas site, and i've noticed that there's is such a large amount of new ISP's, surely the costs of starting a new ISP company can't be so low to allow this many new companies to start?

Just wondering. :)
 
I think the big names in ISP's have opened up a niche market with their outstanding crap after sales service. Newer and smaller ISP's focus is on service delivery - uncapped unshaped unthrottled service with outstanding customer support. Lets just hope they can resist the temptation of being gobbled up by the big names.

Same thing happened to Openserve xDSL back in the day, then a market consolidation happened where all the small guys got absorbed by the big guys.
