“High-definition vinyl” could arrive next year

I wonder i have a technics sl 1200, what would the prices be like?
 
What is the point of "high definition" when the signal to noise ratio from all the dirt, scratches, friction and other stuff puts a fundamental limit on the quality? It is like buying a 4k TV, then plugging it into a coil of wire and watching Isidingo on it via the airwaves.

you can still improve the sound quality of the vinyl, which they are attempting to do
 
Hmm... nice idea but too niche IMO. What the Vinyl industry needs is a way to license, press and distribute custom tracks. Easier said than done.
 
HD Vinyl arrived 36 years ago already, it was also smaller and you didn't have to flip them over. They called this marvel a compact-disc

not a very robust medium though, any scratch on it would render it almost useless

And at this point why not just use a cd / digital. Always thought the point of vinyl was crackling aesthetic of a low-def audio source.

Not all are hipsters or hippies. I would not classify myself as any of those. Lots of comments made when I got my stuff out of retirement a few years ago. Now even my kids appreciate vinyl. The artwork etc is what does it for me. As much as I love technology, it distances us from physical contact.
