Vodacom and Remgro interested in buying Vumatel

CIV Holdings is in discussions to acquire Vumatel, which has built one of the largest open access fibre networks in South Africa, according to industry sources.

In March 2018, Bloomberg reported that Remgro was in advanced talks to buy Vumatel as part of its strategy to consolidate the country’s expanding broadband infrastructure industry.

Guys do you know that Vumatel is costing Vodacom and MTN in the region of R2 Billion per annum. Any sane person will buy them out to keep their profits up.

Vumatel has been very disruptive to all Telecom players. In the Business world they must go.

I predict the death Vumatel very soon.

With higher prices coming in after that.

As a Vumatel customer you should alert them to this. Maybe they can ask for double their price.
 
In the next few years we are going to see a lot of consolidation in the FTTH space, big companies will be buying out the smaller players.
 
And my area is going live next month. Suppose we just wait and if they start gouging just cancel. If the space ends up with Vuma and Openserve it'd suck if voda owned them. Openserve is already ridiculously expensive in comparison and I was glad they never started with my area
 
Vodacom fibre = your worst nightmare.
I am throwing a party the day mine is cancelled (next month)

Vodacom could charge or increase access fees like openserve which would force isps to jack up package prices.
