Greetings.

Just got my new router today. Connected it to adsl and it was working fine. Used the online firmware updater and it updated to a firmware that was released today (Version 3.0.0.4.384_21126 (2018/07/05)).

Now it keeps on saying that the dsl cable is unplugged and yet the led is lit. I am now trying to downgrade to the previous firmware.

Anyone else?

EDIT: I would discourage any owner of a DSL-AC68U from updating to the newest firmware (Version 3.0.0.4.384_21126 (2018/07/05)). Chances are good it will brick your router.

EDIT 2: A fix for the bricked routers can be found here: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/963467-ASUS-DSL-AC68U-Firmware-Update-2018-07-05-Bug?p=21776557&viewfull=1#post21776557

I don't have the model you have but DSL-AC52U no firmware update for my model. But maybe try this as an idea, I always used to have an issue when updating within the router then I started buy downloading to my laptop connecting the via lan then upgrading that way.

Hi !! I have exactly the same problem. The problem is permanent and caused permanent damage to my router. I tried downgrading to more than 10 versions, with rescue mode and nothing worked. I cannot find the specific firmware to the asus site, what are they doing, the have destroyed our routers !!!

Did you try Asus Merlin firmware as well?

I updated the firmware about an hour or 2 ago. It's the same firmware 3.0.0.4.384_21126
I wonder if ASUS will be able to fix this with a patch and whether this has caused a hard brick. :(

Imagine my luck. It happened to me fresh out the box. :o

So you also using another router atm?

Luckily yes. I got my AC68U back in December.

I sent a support email to Asus but I'm not expecting a timely response.

ASUS_SA said I should return the router to where I purchased it under warranty. I also sent a support email to ASUS as did Pallaros from Greece.

I am sure that if they don't pull this firmware they are going to have many more bricked routers and many more irate customers!

I'm going to give Takealot a call tomorrow to see if I can return it.
It is still under Warranty so I can not see why not?

That is the million dollar question. As soon as anyone gets any further info in this regard, we should post something here. Okay!

Thanks for the heads-up. I have just ordered that router.

Does anyone who used the fix use Port Forwarding? Try as I might I can not get any ports to forward. Is it this fix that broke it? :(

Good morning everyone,

We are aware of the firmware that has been causing issues on your routers, and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Please see the fixed firmware version here: https://www.asuswebstorage.com/navigate/s/7CEEBB5860E54F958BAFD41FD4A5C6234

Our engineers at our head office found that the issue simply cut off the link between two individual modules, Broadcom WiFi router side and MTK xDSL side.

Simply download the firmware, unzip it, log into your router and at the top click on 'Firmware Version', then manually upload the file and update.

Our engineers have suggested updating the router with this firmware version twice.

Let us know if this firmware version corrects the issues you are facing.

Kind regards,
ASUS South Africa.
