A heatwave in Quebec has killed 33 people in the past week as high summer temperatures scorched eastern Canada, officials said Thursday.

Eighteen of the deceased were reported in the provincial capital, Montreal, according to regional public health director Mylene Drouin.

She added the majority of the victims in the city were men aged between 53 and 85 living in vulnerable conditions and without access to air conditioning.

The rest of the deaths occurred in other parts of the French-speaking province.

Environment Canada forecast a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius on Thursday, with a heat index, or what the temperature feels like to the human body, of up to 45 Celsius.

So old french men, yellow belly surrender monkeys they called them back in the day.

35 degrees a heat wave ? That is an average South African summer :D

This is a heat wave
The highest temperature officially recorded in Canada is 45 °C (113 °F) on July 5, 1937 at Midale and at Yellow Grass

What is interesting is the way the houses are build much like in Europe, any thing over 30 and people keel over Paris had a "Heatwave" a few years ago and a lot of people died.We have been fairly lucky with the last summer we had, as it rained enough and was lots of wind, otherwise it would have been another hot summer, like two years before that.Their winters is significantly colder then ours which means houses are generally better insulated to keep heat in slight higher then average temps, people suffer.

Our house is build in a similar style, means results in hot and cold in summer and isn't helped by having a tin roof .....

This winter is starting to annoying me however, 6 consecutive days of -5 to -7 which to some places is like summer temps :D
