Per Gig billing is now a reality come November 1 2005.

As ADSL users, what would you prefer ? To be billed for each gig used, or to be offered a specific monthly package ?

Keep in mind that the days of 30 Gig @ R299 are long gone - we won't even be able to offer anything remotely close to a deal like that.

Errr wont Telcum at least offer a 10GB basic cap and then 'buy per GB' after the cap?

They'd be shooting themselves in both feet if they didn't.. but then common sense isn't quite as common as its assumed to be.

I would prever adsl to be a flat rate service. With the option of contacting you or buying aditional gigs online. I do not want a variable bill based on random usuage.

You guys should realy make a complaint to ICASA about this usuage billing nonsense as its realy taking a like 10 steps back. ADSL is saposed to be a flat rate service. Usage billing might end up forcing me back onto ISDN because it would be cheaper to get my gigs that way.

Oh, you can get a 10 Gig account @ around R799.

Gonna be a long hard road the next few months.

This is just sick

wt*!!!

Im sticking to ISDN and cancelling my ADSL order right now. Thank goodness its been 2 months since I ordered and nothing has happened.

This news has made me so irate. No where in the world does it cost so much for ADSL.

This stupid costing structure WILL stop us from viewing any website such as CNN.com.

What the hell is going to happen with the 1mbps service? Basically the faster your connection now just means the more you pay Telkom. Geeezus... how pathetic is this!!!

Please bring in SNO and nationalise the SAT3 cable.

Syzygy

The source is correct, in addtion, Local is going to cap !

Nothing would make me happier than to see the people who make these decisions get run over by a bus....twice.

And I don't even have ADSL.

Yep - our worst nightmare, hard capping is now a reality with 12 hour timeouts.

Lets hope ICASA are not "toothless" against this nonsense.

Aah, the dial-up wins :p

R420 for +- 10 Gig per month

Guess I won't be ordering ADSL after all...

This doesnt make sense. If they give 10gb cap at that price, then the ICASA report means NOTHING. and all this shouting, statements and news articles mean nothing!

This is ludicrous. A genuine giant leap backwards. We'll never be comparable to overseas offerings, Telkom seems hell bent on preventing that. We NEED a flat rate, that's the whole point of ADSL. The whole world works like that, get a x line with a 30GB cap for y. Why the hell can't Telkom restructure their already pathetic offering to work like other countries instead of making it suck even more? What a joke.

Thanks Telkom, you're killing economic growth you greedy fat fingered bastard.

ermm they will be

man its such a pity all the other braodband providers ie:
sentech and wbs are worse than telkom price wise and performance grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

wont be able to afford bf 2 anymore with that cap i mean i need int bandwdth to login grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

telkom woulda made a provision for price increase while locking the person who signed with them to pay for 2 years with no way out lol

thats why i wont sign a contract with telkom because they can change their **** but they wont allow you to cancel

i love this country some times

we let rob mugabe destroy zim we let telkom hold us back

man i wish bush would become pres here and go nail rob and then destroy telkom

Not necessarily. ICASA's new regulations might still arrive before the new prices (higher cap, etc). Might.

Is it legal?

Doesn't a adsl user have a 2 year contract with Telkom? (Or is this for payment of the device only?)

Is it legal for Telkom to change existing users' tariff structure? Surely that is a breach of contract?

The spirit of the contract as I understand it is that a user will have a 3Gb cap on international traffic, and unlimited local band width.

I cannot see how Telkom can change this without mutual concent. Or is there a lot of fine print in the contract?

What's gonna happen to services like Axxess and the other big cap ISPs? Can anyone from these companies give some feedback?

How much per Gb as you must have such an indication from SAIX already ???.

Please give us some concrete facts or not stir up further emotion on this matter.

You don't have to go on contract, you can have it month-by-month as well. The contract is only for people who want Telkoms crappy modem for "free".

Telkom reserves the right to change the conditions of the contract without notifying the user... but this wouldn't impact on the contract anyway because it deals with the bandwidth being sold and not the ADSL service itself. So it has to do with the ISP and not Telkom. Most ISP's have month-by-month contracts as well.
