Hey guys
A friend of mine is having problems with a psycho stalker ex-boyfriend who is keeping track of her. Besides checking her mail, facebook, mxit, etc, even though she keeps changing the passwords, he can tell her exactly when she makes and receives phone calls, sends or receives sms's, and who they come from and go to. She is on Vodacom, although he is not a Vodacom employee (first thing I considered).

I know that there is software to keep track like that, but would like to know how one can go about detecting and removing such software. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is probably a keylogger installed that tracks what she types.

Try something like spybot to remove it...

^^^ was thinking the same (Havoc's post)

or else he installed a trojan to monitor what she does on her PC

Tell her she will have to consider formatting/reinstalling her PC just to be on the safe side.

I know it is extreme, but if it's a keylogger/trojan which won't be picked up by spybot/antivirus software then that would be the safest way to go.

Change your vodacom4me password from another PC....and then don't log onto V4me from the home PC until this is sorted.

Not sure how he could detect incoming sms's though...those aren't tracked on v4me.

How much does this dude know about tech?

post his number in junkmail and say hes selling hd televisions for R3000 each, i did that once and my wifes stalker never smsed us again

Buy a pick handle from the local hardware, and smack him about the ears with it a few times ;-)

Its not her pc. I already checked it out. Just her cellphone, a 6110 navigator, thats why i thought it might be some kind of software on the phone such as PhoneStealth i think it is.

Flash it? Didn't really wanna go that far. Read something about stealth software that gets removed once the battery is taken out for a few seconds, although we tried that and it he could tell her about the past weeks calls and sms's

Software that gets uninstalled from removing a battery? Not very nefarious...backup the address book, messages and any normal user data. Flash. Restore

Hi

Check the phone for non-standard apps. There is software availible that allows you to monitor calls and sms's on the phone, used by parents to monitor their kids.

Like the other guys said flash with latest firmware

Rgds

As a quick experiment - get her to use another phone for a week or so and see if it helps. If it indeed does, then flash the phone then.

If it does not help, then it must be some other source.
