Our fears of 1 Nov is becoming a reality

User from Prophecy said:
Just received a email from my ISP with changes to their ADSL from 1 November. They say Telkom will be capping local as well from then. These will be their new prices:

2 Gigabyte Shaped R 179.00
3 Gigabyte Shaped R 205.00
5 Gigabyte Shaped R 385.00
10 Gigabyte Shaped R 739.00
20 Gigabyte Shaped R 1450.00
30 Gigabyte Shaped R 2150.00 - Currenly I'm paying R349

4 Gigabyte Unshaped R 530.00
10 Gigabyte Unshaped R 1390.00
20 Gigabyte Unshaped R 2690.00
30 Gigabyte Unshaped R 3950.00

I still haven't received word from my ISP. Now, local uncapped made the 3Gig bareable and then we had a taste of what broadband is capable of, but this is plain rediculous.

I don't know about you guys but I'm fed up:

CONDITIONAL NOTICE OF TERMINATION OF TELKOMADSL SERVICE
---------------------------------------------------------------
In view of the revised pricing structure for ADSL services, when seen in the light of the published intent of Telkom to adjust its wholesale ISP pricing models with effect from 01 November 2005, as of 01 October 2005, 30 days notice of termination of contract and cancellation of TelkomADSL service is hereby given, details as follows:

Telkom Account Holder:
Telkom Account Number:
Telkom phone line number:

Should a revised pricing structure be offered at no more than R15 per gig and no local hard cap by Telkom then this Notice of Termination is to be regarded as of no effect nor consequence whatsoever.

Regards

I love the internet, playing multiplayer games, downloading, multimedia etc etc BUT Telkom have gone too far. In laymans terms; This letter is a threat to Telkom that if they do not change their new pricing structure, they can consider my ADSL cancelled.

Will the rest of MyADSL members follow suit? The more, the louder!

Include this address: [email protected]
and put in a complaint at : http://www.telkom.co.za/app/webmastermail/

*sigh*

I've only just got DSL and I'm hoping (praying?) ICASA stops Telkom from introducing their November pricing.

But if the costs go up to what Telkom are pushing I think we boycott the service. I think I'll go into system shock. but If they suddenly get 5000+ termination of service requests maybe they'll pay attention.

I'd direct it through the ISP's - they're closer to Telkoms ear, if the ISPs get hurt, they may be able to put a bit of pressure on Telkom.

I appologise to all except for those involved for the following comment: SAIX Admin who removed my post and banned me for posting my opinion on why I wouldn't be able to play BF2 anymore, IS A TOSSER. I did not Telkom-bash, I simply stated the facts.

It would seem that the ISP's aren’t sure as to what Telkom's intentions are either.

If the prices are as reported ADSL is simply not viable for business anymore. This is retrograde step.

Nope, they deleted it after it was viewed 20 odd times.

It was similar to what I've posted here.

Bingo, that means you'll have to go back to 64k Diginet or ISDN.

You shouldn't send complaints to your ISP, they have about as much pull as you do. They just spend a lot more with Telkom/SAIX..

LaRoosTa: If you have a copy of the post in your browser cache or somewhere please pm it to me. I'll see if I can find out whats up -- if I can get a copy of the post. Without seeing it I can't really whine @ ppl :)

After the ICASA ADSL Public Hearings I do not think Telkom will get away with counting and capping local bandwidth. Their excuse was always that international bandwidth was expensive, and not local. There is absolutely no reason to cap local access.

This "threat" will never work, but at least I'll be a little richer. See the problem is : YOU - the South African. People here in SA "just lives with it". We'll fight using words, but we'll still be filling the pockets of those who we trying to fight.

(G, apologies in advance for quoting you)
Roosta, as much as that is the 'right' thing to do, I for one refuse to sit with a) less speed, b) no 24/7, c) Rumoured impossible to get Infinitcall and mostly d) R440 installation for ISDN.

No thanx.

Paarlberg: I'm not complaining to ISP's, I'm politely asking Telkom to revise their current per gig billing model or I will cancel ADSL. I will also send a similar letter to my ISP.

I have been in contact with someone from Telkom. He has said that once you have reached the 3GB cap, you wont be cut off from local traffic as from the 1st of November. I have just emailed him to confirm this and will let you know what feedback I get.

I have a client in my office from England as we speak. He pays 19 pounds for a 2mbps ADSL line and has a 60GB cap. He is laughing at what we pay for ADSL here. I did a quick conversion, we are paying approximately 65 pounds for a 512k line and a 3GB cap. WOW... we should be so grateful... thanks Telkom!

Im at the point where I would love to join up with a group and go rioting outside the Telkom office. However, this may give me a criminal record which would make it almost impossible to emigrate from this messed up place.

I can't believe that while the rest of the world is firmly in the 21st century, we're basically back to tin cans and a piece of string.

telkom... I HATE YOU.

To telkom shareholders:

**** your ******** *** ************* **** *********** *** *** parasite **** ******** *** ******!!

There.. I feel a little better now.

we should create a 'Telkom PG18' forum (with disclaimer) where we can vent our frustrations without having to hide the epletives with '*' or misspell them. If you are going to swear, lets do it properly so we can feel really good about it.

The story goes: SGS bans people that voice their negative opinions of Telkom, because they fear of being shut-down.

I was going to PM this to rsd, but i'd like this to be an open discussion:

What Telkom/SGS forget is that we are their customers and as customers we are entitled to have an opinion.

If closing down SGS will bring our internet prices down, then so be it. The very reason many people have ADSL is because of games. If the whole SGS did stand up against Telkom's next step, Telkom might force SGS to close down, but they will do that at their own loss.

SGS is a cheapskate way to get more customers while the voluntary admins are being taken for a ride. The amount of money we're paying for Telkom's "precious bandwidth", they should be paying the admins to provide this "free" service. Instead the admins have learnt the "Telkom way" to supress everyone that opposes them by swift deletion and instant ban.

I've "supported" Telkom financially for several years now (not by choice). I've spent alot of money on a decent connection and powerful PC to just to play games such as BF2. Those that don't know BF2 is a bandwidth hog. Now Telkom is milking it even more!

The warning lights are flashing! If the Nov 1 structure falls into place, I cannot afford to be a gamer anymore. (I refuse to pay more for less). I'm sure that I'm not alone and if Telkom is allowed to do this what next? R50 per meg? SGS will become very empty.
