If Eishkom are able to decide as they did at the beginning of this month that they are going to stop all load-shedding until further notice following their meeting, then why were there no electricity generation problems.

If they werent load-shedding, then surely according to them there should have been capacity problems? I dont know of anyone who was loadshed during that time which leads me to believe that there are actually no electricity generation issues.

Any thoughts or corrections?

The real problem is that the brainless unmanagers forgot to buy coal for a few months and now find they cannot get any.

I thought their excuse for the current loadshedding is to do maintenance and build up coal stockpiles ?

So they have to switch off the power to the entire county just so they can do their job!!!??? Bunch of useless peckerheads.

Yet up until a few days ago, we had a fairly lengthy (its all relative) period of no loadsihtting. So it appears they didnt have coal issues then. It just seems to me as if they are pulling the wool over our eyes and couldnt care what excuse they use because they no they will not be held accountable for anything! I dont buy these bull**** excuses. IMHO there is no power crisis, they are creating one for their own benefit! Increase in Eskom profit = increase in government profit = increase in select few back pockets!

Must have stumbled across 'Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room' and got a very rare almost once in a life time brain wave :o

Well, the current round of load shedding has little or nothing to do with the lack of generation capacity. The probably answer as to why we are currently seeing load shedding are as follows:
1. To justify their hefty price increase - essentially telling us this is what life could be like indefinitely.
2. The cost of generation has increased way beyond their shortsightedness, so if you shed load, they generate less and hence loose less money given that the price increase has not yet been decided.
3. To teach us all a lesson ... you better pay up or else we'll switch off.

Who has been experiancing load-shedding lately though? Cause I haven't had for the last 1 and a half weeks!

Every day for me on the East Rand. Prob best to start a new thread about this.

I thought this round of blackouts was because the consumers haven't saved the mythical 10% according to eskom and hence need to be taught a lesson, the hard way.

Yeah. /me keeps a look-out for news about an energy market being established:eek:

Actually electricity exhanges are commonplace in 1st world countries. However they are not tied to a single supplier which is what makes them successful. An energy exchange/market wouldnt be viable as long as Eishkom are the only energy supplier.

Load-shafting is still alive here, 2 x 4 hour slots every week.
Seems to be a two week cycle based on alternating days in the static schedule (http://www.eskom.co.za/live/static/EC.htm).
The "pre-emptive" schedule is independent of pressure on the grid, e.g. this Saturday morning when Eksdom's gauge was green.

We get it as fskmh does. One week we get 4 hours on a Wednesday from 18:00 till 22:00, and then the following week is Monday and Friday 18:00 till 22:00. It repeats. :(

A day at Eskom HQ:

Mmmmm, what shall we do: Buy more coal or get huge bonuses...coal/bonuses...coal/bonuses?
All in favour of coal raise your hands!
And for bonuses?
Bonuses it is. Good work comrades!!
