Hi Guys

Is there any way to search for something on the newsgroups without having to downloading hundreds of megs of headers? Grabit has a search function which is limited to a few searches a day, and one has to pay for unlimited searches. Since Im capped internationally this isn't an option, and since the IS newsgroups are local surely there should be a way locally?

Thanks

Cant think of any local newsgroup search engine.

Although if you accessed someone like www.newzleech.com via dial-up, queued a whole bunch of files and made a single nbz it would make life easier for you. Then you could go back to your IS server and do the rest.

BTW - found www.newzleech.com the other day and so far its the best free nbz source I've come across.

newzbin.com is the best and really cheap as well.
binsearch.net is also good but i prefer newzbin

well it looks like there seems to be a market for a local nzb search website. Anyone got the bandwidth to host?

I was thinking the same thing. I don't even mind paying for such a service if its priced reasonably. Thanks for the suggestions so far guys

What do you think the chances are that IS is going to notice how popular the newsgroups are becoming and some degradation is going to start happening.

Let's hope not. Im still cautiously optimistic that IS isn't like Telkom and wouldn't deliberately degrade the service. But anything is possible and you're right it may very well happen. Somehow I think the peering link will again be to blame

I doubt they would deliberately degrade their service, especially since thier news server is one of the main reasons many people buy IS accounts.
