Is it possible to run two routers plugged into the same ADSL line and have them connect to different ISP's?

No. Only one router can sync at a time. If your router supports half-bridge mode you can dial in with more accounts as a pppoe connection.

yes it is but complex setup. ill look for my thread.

basically router A is your main connection which by all things accesses the internet and router B dails through A and you have to setup a route table for each connection that must go through it or you could switch your gateway from router A to Router B.

yes **** finally yay success :)

linksys dsl modem is on shaped international, dhcp enabled, router mode, routes setted up, half bridge unticked - 192.168.1.1
dlink on semi unshaped, no dhcp - 192.168.1.2

pc's point to the linksys (gets ip via dhcp form it)
it in turn routes wow (well only one i just added, add rest later) to dlink so its semi unshaped,
rest of traffic via linksys

/pat on back

that seems confusing let me rephrase the setup:

*note router A must support the ability for another device to be able to establish a connection via it.

router A
  • using shaped international
  • dhcp enabled
  • mode is set to router mode
  • no bridging is ticked (half bridge unticked)
  • router's ip is set to 10.10.10.1 with a handout of 10 ips starting from 10.10.10.3 (as 10.10.10.2 is reserved for B)
  • subnetmask 255.255.255.0
  • using pppoe

router B
  • using unshaped international
  • dhcp disabled
  • (don't have a router mode on my dlink)
  • no bridging is ticked (half bridge unticked)
  • router's ip is set to 10.10.10.2
  • subnetmask 255.255.255.0
  • using pppoe

Connections
  • Router A is connected to the phone line
  • Router A's Ethernet is connected to one of Router B's Lan ports
  • Router B's wan port is connected to one of its own Lan ports
  • All PC's are connected to Router B's Lan Ports

PC Setup

  • A) gets from dhcp (router a) and per default connected to its connection and must have a route setup (via route in command prompt with -p if tested to be correct) for each ip/application that needs to use router b's internet
  • B) manual IP with the gateway either point to router A (10.10.10.1) or router B (10.10.10.2)

Dailup Procedure
  • router A must dail first then router b

Router Admin
  • 10.10.10.1 for router A
  • 10.10.10.2 for router B

OK, thanks... So it's not a case of simply being able to plug in two routers to a split phone jack.

This networking stuff is frazzling what's left of my sanity... :)
