Should be in N&CA.

And really, are they frikken nuts? Sometimes kids need a good physical reminder why they shouldn't do something (not often, granted, but what's next, you can't shout at the bloody brat?).

this is the most pathetic thing i have ever heard in my life. we are approaching an era filled with spoilt and undisciplined brats.... joy
i was always spanked when i did something wrong. it has just made me more disciplined and given me a huge amount of respect for my parents.
im almost 19 and i am never rude to my parents. i worked as a salesperson at Pcgameworld for the last year or so and some of the little brats that walk through there make me want to bring corporal punishment back to schools as well! little 5yr olds would run in a fiddle with the most expensive displays. then when i'd ask them not to they would run to big fat rich daddy and all he would say when i explained what happened was "now johnny, dont do that". then he ***ked on me later for "reprimanding" his little brat. i mean seriously now

That is such bullcr_p. If my little one is naughty, and does something dangerous, he will get a smack. I don't want my kid growing up spoilt and unruly. I do agree though that ..."No child may punished in a cruel, inhuman or degrading way"... Children need to know right from wrong, there need to be rules, rules cannot be broken, because if it does get broken there will be severe consequences.
I always wanted to say this:D....As long as my kid lives under my roof, he WILL obey my rules.:D:cool:

Whomever proposed this bill needs a bloody good hiding.
It now has to pass through the National Assembly before being rubberstamped by President Thabo Mbeki.
Isnt he supposed to give it his full consideration before signing it?

The other evening I sat in the car waiting for my husband to get a couple of things from the shop, anyway, there was a motorcycle parked outside and this little +-8 yr old brat, goes and touches and play's with it. The mother just said "Evan sweetie, lets go now" - in the irritating voice I wanted to smack.:o

That got me thinking, if I was that mother, little brat would have got a smack, and I would have said to him, "you do not touch what does not belong to you" end of story. Then the other thing is, that at 8 yrs old, ..the parent should have taught that to the child already. Parents need to teach their kids to respect people and other peoples property.

I suppose that each family have different discipline methods, what works for one family does not necessarily have to work for someone else. Parents teach according to what they have been taught or what they have seen...or sometimes parents just don't teach.

My kids will get a smack if naughty and their ears dont work too good anymore. Furthermore, I will smack any kid who acts disrespectfull or out of hand in public place.

When we were kids we knew that not only your dad could get busy ON your @ss if you were naughty but so would the neighbour, the shopkeeper or the headmaster, hell, there was no place to hide.

I once smacked an unruly teenager on a London bus who was spitting at people. Not one local did a thing about it. When I sorted him out with a swift flattie to the side of his ear, you should have seen the looks! But it worked and I think they secrectly wished they had the guts to do it.

....I laughted when I read this...its sooo wrong:D

Have you ever tried explaining to a 3 year old boy why it is wrong to moer their friends with a cricket bat? Not wanting a sore bottom is pretty much the only reason that most kids will refrain from doing something dangerous.

Of course you could wait till another child's eye is irreparably damaged, then they will see the consequences of their actions.

Government needs to solve the real problems of this country before the presume to tell people how to raise their kids. We already have laws regarding child abuse, government enforce those before they redefine child abuse and turn loving parents into criminals.

good on you for that one. a friend of mine was verbally attacked when she smacked her kid on a New Zealand beach - what is this world coming to? Just look at kids today and the answer is clear - parents need to take back control, kids are too inexperienced and young to call the shots, sometimes even when they're pushing 20. what happened to demonocracy by the way, aren't we supposed to have some sort of input before these ridiculous laws are made?

we've already got 8yr olds chopping each other up with axes and school kids killing each other with scissors. And now they don't want parents to discipline their own kids??

Spoilt brats need to be taught a lesson or we'll be breeding tyrants and dictators.

when i was growing up i got my @ss spanked when i deserved it. i think there is nothing wrong with fairly applied spanking.

If a child is naughty one should create a commitee of interested parties, schedule a meeting to discuss whether the committee members qualify.

Once membership has been resolved, the commitee's first decision should be to take a decision as to how many times the child needs to have the error of its ways explained.

Remember punnishment is not an option.

Or to quote West Side Story "Officer Krapsky, we are sick, sick, sick".

So the way to teach a kid not to moer other people is moer him??? You don't see the teeny problem with that approach?

I'm not sure that this should be written in to law, BUT I will never hit my child.

Thanks guys - I also do believe a good spanking is in order when the situation calls for it - but won't overdo it.

Yea, when the child is not disciplined, we get bullies and tyrants...

However, I think this piece of legislation must be targeted at those who abuse their children... and not against those who discipline their children. There is a major difference between the two.

Sweet talking, bribing etc won't help as the child soon pick up that when he/she want something (eg sweets) he/she start to do something naughty - which reminds me of Pavlov's dogs.

This world is getting crazier by the second, who want to climb off?

I also had my share of spankings, and it did not made me a tyrant or bully...
