Kids murder friend - for R5 and raisins

Because we life in a society that believes children should be treated like adults. This robs them of growing up with regard and common sense, but its all cool, as soon as the new bill goes through, your child can rob you blind and even threaten your life and you are not allowed to do anything except send him to he's room and ground him

Yeah I don't know if it was 'society' who influenced the children to kill another child. This is almost exactly the same as that Jamie Bulger killing in the UK sans the train tracks.

Stupid flipen !!!! Maybe the spanking thread should come into this, :)

Spank the child at 7 years when he hits his sister or wait until he murders at 12 and tell him he is wroung. Flip man some one must have seen this coming

I am not saying its society's fault (well c'mon, everything is our fault), what I am saying, children nowadays are expected to see the world as adults do. From a very early age, everything aimed at the childrens market, everything bombarding them has been "adultfied" (my word, copyright pending). Take a look at music video's, the "cream of the crop" start setting examples.

You have a musical genre (rap and hiphop), that shows children, that you are not "cool" or have no street credit if you have not gone to jail. It shows in the video's that women are mostly there to be almost naked and shake there bums all over the place.

Take the so-called stars out there. You have paris hilton going to jail, and her friends say this will be a good thing, because it will "help to lose weight and give her street credit". Britney Spears, the mother of 2, is out almost everynight partying, and vomiting in night clubs.

Children are not treated as children any more, and am also not disciplined as children any more

Yip!

Firstly: the child was 12 in the same class as a 7 year old. Secondly, according to the teacher he was a bully/troublemaker. There are simply zero morals when hooliganism turns into premeditated murder. It's not a societal influence that caused the child to kill another - it's the lack thereof.

Foster care... something tells me not having your own parents to protect (through discipline) and love you had something to do with this... it says something to us about our role as parents...

The two suspected of being responsible for the killing - boys aged seven and 12 in foster care - appeared in court at Vanrhynsdorp for the second time on Wednesday.

My guess would be a violent upbringing is more to blame here than the media.

Also

Jobrey, 18, the family's eldest son, was digging a grave for "their baby" about 100m from the family's home on the farm when Die Burger visited on Wednesday.

Having to dig your own graves indicates quite a bit of poverty, I don't think these kids are the same as the suburban brats who are drenched in MTV and E! News

But music is still readily available, as well as parents fearing their children

Yeah but show me a hiphop song that says "kill your mate with an axe?"

If they shot a cop on the other hand...

Everyone is blaming the media and society, but what about the parents?

Government laws

No discipline at school, teachers not allowed any form of discipline
No Spanking or discipline allowed by parents.
Sex allowed at age 12, Abortion may be withheld from parents
To many "Freedoms" and "rights" for the young, they do not fear discipline anymore, they know that they are free to do as they please until they are caught and then shrug it off.
Government experimenting with working structures. (School system and enatis)
Parents both working to make a decent living

Now where will discipline and correct upbringing come from.

All this amounts to free roving youngsters that do not get the guidance they need.

Exactly! We should remember one thing, the ill disciplined criminal miscreants of today, becomes the society of tomorrow

A bru the friend that played with Him was in his class, the 12 year old interacted with the younger children regularly.

So does the lawer take the route of "harsh living conditions" ?
