360 vs PS3 - Which Offers a Better Home Theater Experience?

Duh .. Bluray...

Ok maybe where you can download highdef movies the xbox might have a chance..
But still: Bluray!

I think the xbots pretty much knows that the PS3 is the better media hub. Most will throw in your face that they only use their xbox to play games which the PS3 does anyways.

I doubt serious home theatre users would use a PS3 at their decoder or Blu Ray player of choice. It's a nice to have - sure - but enthusiasts will go for something a little more decent on the home theate side. PS3 is like a jack of all trades, master of none.

Pretty much like Sony speakers : they do the job, but no one serious about home theater even considers them

Anyway - can this beast at least output bitstream yet .... ? All well and good having a 4 year old machine decoding TrueHD or DTS-HD MA, but I'm pretty sure sure R10,000 amplifers now can do a better job with the progress of technology.

And with lack of bitstream, how is one supposed to 'pull' the bits of the Blu Ray and pass over to a decent decoder?

but you got to love them who make it their sole purpose in life to spread the gospel, i guess the ps3 is so awesome that one have ample time to do so too ;)

While while the PS3 is occupied 90% of the time by the kids then we have to assume time is available a plenty to find interesting articles and share the information. If some people do not want to read it then its up to them to Foff, there is many readers that enjoy reading the information that could matter to them.

amen, do we need to tithe afterward ?

PS3 has DTS, etc etc built in ... but comparing it to a HT set-up is fool-hardy fan-biosm.

Sure, it integrates pretty well into a HT setup ... but its not the be all and end all.

Dolby has a point, a PS3 is a jack of all trades and master of none. End of story!

Flame on ... its what fanbois are good at ...

Ah. I'm starting to see why you have a reputation on MyBB as a knob, I Am Penguin.

As it is, finding legal Digital copies of any move, music, or video game file in even semi-decent quality right now is incredibly hard to do.

Er... it's called NetFlix? And the XBox 360 makes digital distribution a breeze.

Unfortunately insisting I retain all my media on disc is akin to insisting I retain all my music cassettes from the 80s. Sure, I still own the content and can theoretically play it back anytime I like, but I can't really do much with the outdated media.

Seriously.... if the PS3 is THAT great why would you need to create a million threads to justify it ?

Sure its a great piece of gear... but any serious gamer would be playing on their console not on a forum arguing the merits of having it.

Honestly I really like it, but I think that it will be a few months before we even know if it s worth the price.

Just a few questions IAP, Do you have a PS3 slim ? If you do, did you pay for it using your own money that you earned at a real job, do you also pay for your own house, food, bills, taxes ? Do you have a wife/GF to look after and spend time with ?

What console offers the best experience ? One that you can afford, have fun on and still do other stuff... like eat.
There is more to life than a pretty picture.

IAP - wtf ... ? I'm not bashing , slating or trying to make the PS3 look bad. You said it can do XYZ - and I'm telling you factually that it can't do ABC and giving a reason. I'm giving you links and reasons.

I did setup TVersity once to see what it looked like - but I use the Xbox 360 for what it was for : games. I have a seperate streamer for my movies (TVIX - does more codecs and formats than the PS3, right?) and a seperate streamer for my music (Squeezebox - does more formats than the PS3, right?).

I've got a R100k home theatre setup too - and I did live with a PS3 for 8 months and considering getting my own, until I realised it couldn't bitstrem across.

So what would I use it for ... ? I have a video streamer, I have an audio streamer, I have a game system and I have a HT.
