You will see both the HTC Touch Pro and the SonyEricsson X1 in the MTN brochure.

I think an official complaint at the Advertising Commission should be appropriate. Can MTN show concerted effort to get sufficient stock or took reasonable steps to get stock of these products. Don't they just place the handsets in their brochure to draw customers and to look fancy. Is that not misleading advertising?

I just phoned Leaf and they have have had stock for months - but not MTN.

Who wants to join me to bundle a great deal of HTC Touch Pro grey imports?

What is also surprising is that the X1 is way more expensive elsewhere in the world and cheaper than the Touch Pro here. I think Leaf is taking us for a ride as well?

What do you think?

yeah why the **** do they advertise phones that they don't have!!!Pissing me off now. I want my Omnia:(

dude i've been waiting for my Omnia from italk now, for 3 weeks, going into 4th week. Then they still got the balls to ask me if i dont want to pay the new higher price, cause then they will give it to me now, otherwise we must wait another 3-6 weeks if we stick on the old promo price.

thats downright discrimination, so just because I'm a promo client, I'm suddenly second grade to the other customers paying the higher price...WTF, I'm so pissed off I'm ready to really start RANTING!!!!

try lots of MTN shops... i phoned around for the Omnia, one store said January, other said end of December, then one said thursday :) so try around, it changes store to store...

i phoned MTN Clearwater and they said that they wont get an omnia til Jan... so who knows.

Don't know if i can wait that long dudley:mad:
I just don't understand why they advertise phones that they dont have.

So now it's:
Samsung Omnia
SE Eperia X1
HTC Touch Pro
BB Bold

All phones that they are advertising in their catalogiue and shop while they dont actually have any of them! I'd prefer it if they did not advertise anything and wait till they have stock.

Oh get this...the guy who works at the shop told me now that their truck with the Omnia's got highjacked. Anybody else get that story from them?

I know you're annoyed but there's no call for such language. And putting a smiley face on it doesn't make it cute or tongue-in-cheek. That's just an offensive thing to say. 'Humour' based on racial stereotypes isn't particularly funny and like Freud says humour is more often than not a mask for what we really think.

My MTN store said they just heard they are getting some stock next week of the Xperia. But only for Anytime350 and up. I ordered one but didnt sign anything. I want to try convince them to give it to me on anytime200 or with a pay in. I'm going to confirm tomorrow that they are getting stock. Seems unlikely but the manager agreed with the moron at the counter.

Which MTN store is that? Where?

I know the Touch Pro should be available - and Leaf says they have many in store, but the MTN Customer Service and the online call centre says there is nothing countrywide. If it was for 2 or 3 weeks I would understand, but this is now almost 2 months.

What MTN does not know is they are *&^ing with what the relationship marketing guys call "opinion leaders" Those are the people who multiply awareness and acceptance of new entrants/products.

If you want to see good service goto www.simplicity.co.za. This is the most efficient service I've seen in a long time in SA. I ordered some stuff last week. I used to work in Atlanta ordering a 4-layer prototype FR4 PCB at 6pm from Overnight protos in California (over 3000km away) The next morning when I get to the office the package is waiting at the door. That's impressive!

The ad on radio of the guy getting a call from Telkom months after he applied for his telephone line is an insult to being South African.

Can we not focus a bit more on customers and a bit less on our sandwiches?

We import electronic equipment. We have special motherboards ordered through a Gauteng firm a year ago (october) and still waiting. We ordered machine cameras from Taiwan and 3 days later its cleared through customs and delivered to the door.

Why can't MTN tell us what's going on?

Don't they know or don't they care?

I dont know when the X1 was launched by SE, but GSM Arena afaik is not a local site. If they therefore quote a release date it would be international.

You must also remember that all handsets require ICASA approval. ICASA state a minimum of 6 weeks turnaround, but I've seen less and more. So you can count on a 2 month lag between Intl launch and local launch.

Another thing is that Chinese companies and some other Asian companies are dead scared that their designs would be copied. Not surprising. Note that China does not subscribe to the International Patent Cooperation Treatyl which means that copies are often launched before the real one is -just because OEM copies are not that thoroughly tested.

Thats why all these firms keep everything quiet until the launch date. So they are scared of pre-launch frequency approvals in small countires like SA.

BTW Sony Ericsson is not distributed by Leaf.
