ANC President Jacob Zuma has given the strongest indication yet that he wants to be the president of South Africa.

Answering questions at an ANC lunch with editors in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Zuma said there was no debate within the ANC on whether Kgalema Motlanthe should be allowed to continue in his role as president.

Zuma made it clear that there was an ANC resolution, made at the party's Polokoane conference, that the president of the ANC will also be president of the country. "That (resolution) has not been changed.

Most political analysts would tend to disagree with this, and I would fully support them.

I think JZ may be a little worried that the people prefer Motlanthe as president and not him. What ever happened to the corruption case against JZ? Surely he can't be president with that hanging over his head or am i just being silly and everything will vanish like magic.

So how did Mothlante get to be president now if Polokwane decided that the party president should be SA president?

And what do you do about the fact that there is a limit on the number of terms that a person can be sA president that isn't the same as that of the ANC? Can we expect changes to the constitution to allow us to adopt the Zimbabwe president for lide model?

At the time of Mbeki's recall, they could only replace him with someone who was already in the cabinet, so that excluded Zuma.

The ANC might be the current ruling party but they don't have the 2/3rd majority to make changes to the constitution. Due to opposition parties, such a ruling will never pass.

This does not come as a surprise.
I was expecting this, because he JZ fears the people will realise that we now have someone with moral fibre doing the job, so why replace him with a criminal like JZ.

It was the only constitutionally viable way of [-]sacking[/-] recalling Thabo without forcing a dissolution of parliament.

Correct.

Incorrect. The ANC do enjoy a two thirds majority at present.

My bad. However, with the freeze on the passing of any changes during the run-up to elections, what are the chances of them changing the president's term in office? Plus, do you think that they'll still have a 2/3rd majority after the 2009 elections?

IMO the ANC is in for a bigger shock come election results time than they think. I reckon they will still win the election but their 2/3 majority will be gone.

This is no surprise. The elected ANC president is SA president elect.

Not necessarily. If the ANC were to win by a small majority, then there's a chance their candidate will not be elected President by parliament.

Parliament elects the president - not the ANC. The ANC have only got their man in thanks to their majority stranglehold over parliament.

As I said before, the mighty always fall. One day, the ANC will find itself out of power.

and you know this how?

It sure looks like the AIDS shower boy fears Motlanthe .

ANC: Cut Motlanthe coverage

The ANC has allegedly ordered the SABC to reduce its coverage of President Kgalema Motlanthe and to stop projecting him as being so presidential, to the disadvantage of the party's president, Jacob Zuma.

In a startling move that points to deep-seated divisions in the camp, the ANC has allegedly asked the country's biggest media organisation not to project Motlanthe as being more of a statesman than Zuma.

City Press asked the head of the Media Monitoring Project, William Bird, to analyse SABC TV's English news bulletins from last Saturday to Thursday to evaluate how Zuma and Motlanthe were featured.

In that period Bird found that Zuma could be "seen and heard speaking" for 239 seconds as opposed to Motlanthe's 61 seconds.

Tsk tsk, SABC. The organs of government are not the organs of the party.
