Hey guys. I know alot of people saying that the cybersmart news proxy [squid02.cybersmart.co.za] resolves to news.saix.net and that it is just a redirection. But I done some research and found something very interressting !

squid02.cybersmart.co.za resolves to 196.15.188.67

news.saix.net resolves to 196.43.2.61

So I did a whois on the cybersmart 1 and it seems to be a SAIX IP. Very interressting as when downloading with the cybersmart server and the content will obviously be cached but it wont be cached on the normal saix news server as its a completely diffirent IP.

I contacted cybersmart and they informed me that that is a saix server but they contacted SAIX to allow only cybersmart users to use that IP. Strange as it might seems it looks like cybersmart is hiring that from SAIX.
:D

caveman, it would make sense for Cybersmart to opt for a hosted server at SAIX, as opposed to having one on their own premises and paying extra to route the traffic there. All their clients have direct links to SAIX, not Cybersmart.

Or am I misunderstanding your curiosity about why Cybersmart would pay SAIX to host a service for them?

What? I just want to say when cybersmart users use news.saix.net it wont work cause cybersmart users dont have access there mapy. But use the cybersmart proxy and it still goes to SAIX but a diffirent IP maybe diffirent server

Cavedog, are you actually able to download anything using the squid server?

I'm having no luck at all...

Just for interests sake, there was a time when 2 IP's (not 2 adresses like news.saix.net and news.telkomsa.net, but 2 different IPs like 123.123.123.123 and 124.124.124.124) worked on a certain providers news server (don't PM me for the IP, I said there WAS a time !!! :p) and what was cached on the one IP was available at cached speeds from the other...

cavedog as far as I recall, your a cybersmart oneprice subscriber, correct ? And you can download using capextender from their news server proxy: squid02.cybersmart.co.za, correct ?

If this is the case please let me know, as I have a friend who would find this news very very intresting. :)

noy anymore for some unknown reason cybersmart's news proxy is down!

Hey guys,
Sorry to bring this up again but does Cybersmart allow news server connections or not?
Tried using news.saix.net, news.cybersmart.co.za, squid02.cybersmart.co.za but none work... little help please??

Thanks

I am also wondering whether we can use ANY new server on Cybersmart's network...?

I did some searching on this a while back and also contacted Cybersmart about it.
It seems as if you can't access any free local news servers with your Cybersmart account.
Nothing prevents you from creating an account with one of the international paid news servers (AstraWeb, etc.) and then use it.
I did try out AstraWeb and it worked perfectly, but the local SAIX and IS news servers don't work.
