About to get a laptop with Vista since no drivers out for XP yet so wondering if Pastel will work on the Vista platform?

Thanks!

Should work afaik... never really tried it, but Pastel itself is a fairly standalone pos.... you may have an issue with the printers, but I can't see much else giving you grief really.

I suppose that has nothing to do with Pastel working?

Nope - just wanted to check if you do get XP drivers for that particular laptop.

I learnt the best (and smart) thing to do is - should there be too many ifs regarding old software on new operating systems, then the prudent thing is to not to go for the new OS, but rather use an older, compatible OS instead to spare you the grief and loss of data/database corruption.

My mom has just bought a new Laptop with Vista business and installed Pastel version 5 and it is working fine. I tell her to do backups regularly.

pastel should run fine on vista

there is not my support you would need with vista

it will either work or it wont work

if it works the only support you will need to tech support for the program and not the OS

In order to address the UAC issue with VISTA; Pastel have now released Pervasive V9.6.

so make good use of that support license /fee! :)

Pastel support for Vista

Hi

The current version of Pastel runs fine on Vista since Pervasive SQL 9.6 is bundled with it.
For older versions you will need to disable UAC. The support document is available on the website for the various issues you might experience with Vista.

Version 5.2 and earlier is not supported though since they were 16-bit versions and the new Pervasive SQL 9.6 does not support the 16-bit libraries anymore.

Have not tried the old Btrieve engine that was bundled with version 5.2 and earlier on Vista yet.....

Regards

Johan

Works fine on Vista. I use it evryday on Vista. Had Pastel 2005 on and had to change the decimal points a bit and then it was fine. Upgraded about a month ago to 2007 version and have no issues.

Thanks for the replies! The laptop I'm planning to buy is an Asus F8Sn from Taiwan which is only released in Vista. Wish it will have XP drivers down the road as I took weeks to get my Asus A8Sc laptop to dual boot with XP with all the drivers! And now it's stolen while I was in Belgium of all places!!! Thanks again!
