I've decided to update my phone's (Sony Ericsson W800i) firmware because my phone is getting very slow and faulty and even if there isn't a newer version than the firmware I have I just want my phone's firmware to be flashed.

OK, so I download the update service app. from the SE website and download the newest updates. I then run this app. and do exactly what it tells me to do but it doesn't work!!! At the step where you are supposed to hold the "c" button and connect the USB cable to the phone, my phone just switches on and askes for a PIN. So I realize the drivers aren't installed, so I install them and the exact same thing happends, If anyone knows what to do please help!!!:):):)

If I remember correctly you should take out your sim card when connecting the phone for an upgrade.

I actually flashed my firmware (K810i) last night with a proper tool (not the SESU) XS++ and now my phone works great. The phone somehow became corrupt so it couldn't work. I spent about 2 hours looking for a solution online.

Hopefully you backed up all your contacts etc before running the update because if the firmware is flashed, details on the phone are overwritten, at least
in my experience. I think the SESU just updates the firmware, not overwrites it.

Download XS++ and then once you connect with your USB cable you can see which firmware you have on your phone.

Go to SE Users and get your repective firmware.

You will need to download the firmware, unrar it and then check all 3 options once connected in the XS++ interface, the first 2 selections point to your
firmware file (unrar'ed) and then the third option select the phone version you have. The select flash. take a couple of minutes. If you start up your phone and get a "configuration error, please contact your provider", then just flash your phone with the 3rd option selected (where you select which phone model you have). that should resolve it for you.

Once that was done, my phone was like new - actually even better, it didn't have all the vodacom branded rubbish all over it. BTW I used the generic firmware for the K810i. Another useful link with way more details: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=156090 and http://myforum.lasyk.net/showthread.php?t=37879.
