In a few months I plan to move to SA (now I live in the Netherland).
I already have an Alcatel Speedtouch Home modem which I intend to keep using.
On the website of Telkom I read this modem is not actively supported anymore by Telkom. No further info on their website about how to use this modem.

Does anyone have the details of how to set up a connection with Telcom using the Speedtouch Home? Or is there any .pdf or .doc available for download?

BTW, now I have a VPN/PPPoA connection, but I understood Telkom uses PPPoE.

Is this and ethernet or usb modem?

I have and alcatel speedtouch home ethernet and it works perfectly fine. You'll probably only need a few config changes upon arriving here.

Yes, it is an Alcatel Speedtouch Home ethernet modem.
- But how do you connect? With a Windows' "Dial-Up-connection"? Or else?
- Is there a setup cd or tool available to force the right Telkom settings into your modem?

Bye, Roland

You dont want to force telkom anything on yourself. The modem will work fine with a 3rd party PPPoE client. You can tweak a few settings to maybe make your connection run faster.

Speed Touch 330 (and other) modem drivers with South African settings can be found at:

Hello Melse,

At Cistron you can find a comprehensive userguide about the configuration.

Good Luck!

I have contacted Alcatel for Firmware update for the speedtouch Home ethernet modems thats no longer supported by Telkom.

I quote

Thank you for contacting SpeedTouch Customer Support.
Your reference number with our helpdesk is:

I have read your mail concerning the modem.
We donot recognize the Interface you send us. When it is a Speedtouch modem, it should state on the bottom of the modem "SpeedTouch" with a number or with Home behind it. Also there should be a code starting with CP or 3ec Can you check all that?

You wish to have new firmware for your ST510 with one ethernet port.

The firmware for the one port ST510 (ST510E) is the same as the firmware for the 4 port ST510 (ST510v4).
The newest firmware is version 4.2.7, and you can download it from:
http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/510.asp

Is this the model Telkom issued with the first ADSL installs?
