My first attempt was Webafrica's ADSL 512kbps uncapped express. Instant setup, no contract, and using my own router, so plus points for that. Then I find out that the threshold on their website isn't 30gb over 10 days, it's 10gb over 10 days. Minus points there, but they've changed the website on my request to be clearer.
However, even being rate limited to 256kbps during the day is fine, because after 8pm I can get the full 4mbps unshaped, which is fantastic, but that's not the official stance, so they'll probably shut that down eventually.
My second attempt was Imagine's 512kbps dyndns uncapped. The line is limited to 512kbps, probably on the router they supply, and the speeds are a crappy 256kbps during the day even on work-related sites, but after 5pm I get 512kbps to all sites which is great, but not as brilliant as 4mbps.
Now I'm stuck. Do I cancel the Imagine account and take the punishment of wasting money on the setup fee and a calendar month notice to go back to the glorious uncapped Webafrica account, only to have them lock down the accounts to 512kbps, or stick with Imagine who provide only what they've advertised?
Service and support from both companies has been excellent, so that's not a deciding factor for me, especially compared to the joke that is Allyoucaneat.co.za.
