Pietermaritzburg - African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma received a superstar welcome from thousands of supporters outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday.

Just moments earlier, Judge Chris Nicholson had declared the decision to prosecute him on fraud and corruption charges invalid, holding that the State should have consulted him before going ahead with the prosecution.

Cheers of joy erupted outside the court when the verdict was broadcast to his supporters camped out in Freedom Square, opposite the court, in a chilly Pietermaritzburg.

Surrounded by dozens of bodyguards, Zuma waved as he arrived to address his supporters, some of whom had climbed into trees to catch a glimpse of him.

"Chris Nicholson is not a counter-revolutionary judge," ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe told supporters after the ruling.

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema said he always knew Zuma would win the court bid to have the prosecution declared invalid.

'Mbeki the problem'

"The problem in this country is [President] Thabo Mbeki and his people... We don't want him," Malema said.

"The NEC [national executive committee] has got a responsibility to recall Mbeki or else we will recall them.

"To the racist media... we defeated you again," Malema added to loud cheers.

Behind him was a huge banner with a picture of Zuma and the words "hands off our president".

"Today we feel absolutely vindicated. We want to see who are the rapists of the judicial system," said Congress of South African Trade Unions secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi

"There is a political conspiracy, that's what we have been saying. That's what we have been ridiculed for."

South African Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande said Zuma's rights had been raped.

"Zapiro, don't try and make fun of rape. Our sisters, our mothers are victims of rape on a daily basis. Don't play with rape. It's you, along with the other media people who are rapists.

"We are happy for Msholozi and we did say we would support him until the end."

Whoo

A nice example of the level of intellect on display in the echelons of power in this country.

They make George Bush look like a rocket scientist don't they.

["Zapiro, don't try and make fun of rape. Our sisters, our mothers are victims of rape on a daily basis. Don't play with rape. It's you, along with the other media people who are rapists."]

I love the fact that they are fighting each other within the ANC. I will have a beer and a braai. View all this action and just feel warm and fuzzy inside :D

Now we just need a gun to accidently go off and a poorly placed assegaai and we're done :D

They say their mothers are victims of rape, and what does the government do about it? Fsck all. What will Malema and Zuma's goverment do about it? Fsck all.

Calling the media racist - Well done. The ignorant masses will just follow

Our sisters, our mothers are victims of rape on a daily basis

and why exactly is that? Your beloved ANC? Who allows this to happen? Where is the attitude that you can cure AIDS by raping a young virgin most prominent? Among the Zulu men. Zulu men just like your beloved Zuma.

My sentiments exactly, in a way I hope that zuma becomes president and then we see how anc, youth league, communist party etc. rip each other apart.

If zuma rewards them for their support, he will alienate the business community since communist party has some radical (stupid) idea's and intellectually challenged molema is sure to also want his slice of the pie etc.

change is in the air and it will make a teabagging session on BF2 seem tame in comparison.

Let the fun begin, everything happens for a reason and sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture and not our own short-term disappointments.

The run up to the elections is going to be great fun, and I for one am interested how zuma is going to please all the people who he has promised to help

farmers
business
communist party
Afrikaners
his cronies
youth league
womans league....

eish!! he might not survive to stand in the elections if he upsets to many of the different parties.

as for today's judgment, unfortunately the judge had no option other than to rule like he did, and stuck to the letter of the law and for that I commend him, it is the prosecutors who fooked up.

Pitbull I will bring my machine gun and some sosaties to the braai ;)

poor liberal media reaping what they sow again :o

Then why did you vote for him you nincompoop?

Malema has his head so far up JZ's bum, I'm sure he can see what he has had for lunch. JZ watch out for that one! He's ALREADY after your soon-to-be-new job.

I am sick of all this revolution nonsense! There isn't a revolution, there never was a revolution! You were handed this country on a damned silver plate! Now STFU!

Agreed timgaul!!

As per the 1992 referendum

"The question asked was "Do you support continuation of the reform process which the State President began on February 2, 1990, and which is aimed at a new constitution through negotiation?"

The results, on a turnout of 85.1%, were:
Result Number of votes Percentage
Yes 1,924,186 68.73%
No 875,619 31.27%

Twas through 'negotiation' not revolution. Tired of Malema's BS

Julius Malema couldn't "defeet" a chicken even if he bought a barrel full of drumsticks from KFC (which it looks like is his staple food).

This little s**t is younger than me! And I barely remember the referendum. All I remember was: "If the vote is NO then the SA cricketers might as well stay in Australia" :D.

South Africa has been hailed as a modern day marvel as no government in history has voluntarily given up in favour of another. Now this little upstart (who doesn't even remember CODESA) is ruining everything this country stands for.

Though I do hear rumours that Jacob isn't a big fan of Julius. I would like to see the say come when he leaves Malema hanging!

Yes, you heard it here people, I would vote for Zuma over Malema any day! (Of course this is hypothetically assuming they are the only two politicians left on the planet! Actually then again I might still abstain :/). Better the devil you know than some idiot who drives a Merc in Bryanston, I always say! :D
