Where can one get a hd cable I am all new to the xbox family.
Maybe you guys can shed some light on why my brand new memory card 256mb does not want to be seen by the console ??:rolleyes:

All the new XBox's should have a HDMI port. You can get a HDMI cable from any audio/visual shop or from Incredible connection.

Did you by any chance get your xbox from Telkom?

First of all, welcome to the XBOX family! :D

Second of all, if your XBOX and TV have HDMI connections (the flat one, looking almost like a USB port), rather use that. That negates any fiddling you have to do to get it working - just plug either end of the HDMI cable into your XBOX and TV and you should have glorious digital HD content streamed from your XBOX to your TV.

If either doesn't have an HDMI connection, you will have to use the Component HD cable, which is usually supplied with the XBOX. To view HD through the component cables, set the switch on the cable to HDTV and presto, your XBOX should output HD signals, via component, to your TV.

The HDMI cables retail for anything between R200 and R1500, depending on the brand and quality. Try Hi-Fi Corruption and you can get a Wharfedale HDMI cable for R200.

Hi thanks well It s not from telkom .... it s the arcade system so you only get the av cables...another thing is the reason i am looking for the hd component cable is because if I plug it in using my tv s scart connection (it s the sinotec 42 inch lcd) and set the xbox to 50 hz all colours and scrren is fine but if i change it to 60 hz it starts to jump around like a crazy bit$% with lines and stuff... the tv is only a year old , and yes it s got the hdmi port and obviously the hd component aswell .. Now to solve my problem , will the hd component cabe work for me ??

Sounds like it, although you can use a generic HDMI cable which will be a bit cheaper, but you have to do a bit of kung fu to get 5.1 audio out.

Otherwise checkout take2.co.za or kalahari.net for 3rd party component cables, the Official Microsoft ones are quite expensive.

sounds not a problem i run that through my pioneer system it just the display so thats why the actual hdmi cable wont work for me as it carries the sound and the display . not to keen using my tv speakers for sound ....

AFAIK you don't need to output your audio to your TV. You can output the audio (via component) to your hi-fi/amp and the image to your TV via HDMI. For me, though, I just output everything via HDMI to my TV and output all sounds from my TV to my hi-fi. No 5.1 surround, I know, but it works well enough for me.

EDIT: If you want to output HDMI to TV and component audio to amp, you'll need the special Microsoft branded HDMI cable, because IIRC there isn't enough space for both component and HDMI to be plugged in together at one time, while the Microsoft HDMI cable has an adapter of sorts? Can't remember exactly...

Alternatively, If you're up for a bit of DIY, if you pop the bottom case off the SD composite cable you can fit the HDMI cable and still use the 5.1 from the component Cable.

maestro is that now the one with the 3 x points for display ??? and 2 for audio...

Sounds like a plan. At first, I read "pop the bottom case off" and immediately thought "and void the warranty on my XBOX?! NO WAY!". A second read-through made it apparent that it's the bottom cover of the SD composite cable and I thought - hey, that's a pretty neat idea. I might actually do that as soon as I buy myself a 5.1 surround system. :p

hd component cable solved my problem :) after seeing the graphics mmmm I think it s an orgasm thats gonna last for weeks :P thanks for your help though :)
