Johannesburg - Global markets might be in a spin and the local political scene has been turned on its head, but at least motorists and commuters will soon be smiling broadly.
That's because the retail price of petrol will drop by 25 to 29 cents a litre on October 1, the minerals and energy department said on Friday.
The price of 91 unleaded petrol (ULP) would decrease by 29 cents per litre, 93 ULP and lead-replacement petrol (LRP) would drop by 27 cents per litre, 95 ULP and LRP would drop by 25 cents per litre.
The wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content would drop by 56 cents per litre.
Diesel with a 0.005 percent sulphur content would drop by 55 cents.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would drop by 65 cents a litre and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin by 87 cents a litre. - Sapa
