I've got a 3Ghz Intel on a Intel915GEV, 2G 533Mhz memory and Chaintec 8800GT.
My pc "froze" last night when I started playing The Witcher(in the opening scene)
I had to do a hard reset.
PC booted fine, I started playing Witcher again.
PC froze again during the opening scene.
Another hard reset was needed but this time it froze during windows startup.
Another hard reset and then motherboard didn't even POST.
First I thought overheating so I opened the sides and waited a few minutes, but still no POST.
So I took PC upstairs and connected my 15"CRT monitor instead of the 32"LCD, because I thought the higher resolution was too much of a load.
I disconnected DVD and other harddrive, also took out the soundcard and graphics card and used onboard graphics.
PC booted fine, but froze again during windows loading.
Last thing to check was the memory. I took out the 2x256MB's and left the 512MB. I reconnected everything (gfx card and all drives).
PC started no problem. I then started The Witcher again no freezes at all.
By this time it was getting late. So I put back the 2x256 sticks, but I put them in the other channel and moved the 512 to the open slot on the other channel. So it's still running dual channel.
PC started without problem and I went to bed.
What else can I check?
Maybe it's the pirate copy of The Witcher?
Maybe it's graphics drivers?
