Hey

My ADSL line drops every 5 seconds and it was driving me NUTS so in frustration I tried to upgrade the firmware on my router, Mega 100WR.

I previously tried to use the exe that came in the new firmwares zipfile but that didn't work but I noticed last night in my routers interface that there was an option to "Update Firmware".

Reluctantly, I tried that. I just pointed it to the img file of the new firmware and after the update I can't even access the router interface at 10.0.0.2.

How do I check if the router is still usable?

Can you not reset the router? Stupid question but maybe you never did that? I would reset it and try again. Should be a button somewhere
Good luck

Tried that, didn't work.

I'll try again tonight because I'm not sure if I pressed that reset button in fully.

and if you can't log in the router do a ipconfig in command prompt and check what is your default gateway this usually = your routers LAN IP

just pressed the reset button or held it for 15 seconds? apparently there is a difference.

I also bricked my Mega100WR using the firmware package and following the instructions it came with perfectly. I did manage to un-brick it, but this was over a year ago and I cant remember how. All I know is I had to fiddle with variables in the app that you use to upgrade the firmware with. Really bad app I might add... firmware updating should be an easy, web browser "Open File, OK" process that doesnt fail unless something drastic like a power cut, goes wrong.

Yup, I tried using that app and no matter what I did I just couldn't get it to work, and I'm no slouch with a PC so you can imagine what an UN-userfriendly app it was.

Anyway, if no-one can advise me on how to check if it's bricked/how to unbrick it, then can I have some recommendations on which Netgear router to go for.

feo , I had the same issue.

On the 2ctelecoms site it stated that the Mega105wr firmware was to be used.

This I done , I also had the same issues, when I eventually managed to reset it. This allowed me to get into the 10.0.0.2 webpage. I was unable to synch my line again.

Eventually I connected using my network cable and flashed the firmware, with the version 3 firmware(rather sketchy on that), but it was the 3rd edition of the firmware and it is still running strong since then.

DG834GT :) Been in love with it ever since fz1 convinced me to get it. Updating the firmware is a breeze as well.

I really hope you get your router unbricked though :(

You reset it using the little 'reset' button behind the router?

yes sir indeed, I did.

Just press and hold , for a bit like another poster said for about 15 seconds.

I disconnected my line and any other network cable save for the single pc I was using.

Did you also try the Mega105 firmware, was that the cause ?

Well, the firmware I got was 99.7.2 and I think it said that it adds some functionality of the Mega 100WR2.

OK, update.

The reset button does absolutely nothing so that option is dead to me.

Some progress though, I went to Network Connections, right clicked my LAN adapter, went to properties, TCP/IP, Properties and set the IP, Gateway and DNS (what are the correct DNS server addresses to use BTW?) and now when I type 10.0.0.2 I at least see the words "Log In" on the top of my browser so at least it's seeing the router, however, the login page just never loads.

Help.

Sorry for the bump but I really need some help.

I've set up all the settings manually, it's just that I can't get the router's login page to show even though it shows "Log In" at the top of Firefox's window.
