Can u guys please advise of the easiest way to jailbreak the iphone.

Get iTunes 8. Restore the phone to 2.1 (much better than 2.0.2). Use Quickpwn to unlock and JB.

If it's a 3G, simply upgrade to 2.1, then use Quickpwn to JB.

Why jailbreak?

Thanx for the info on jailbreaking the Iphone. Why must it be jailbreaked, what's the benefits. I ask the guy at voda4u at Kolonade and he never heard of the term jailbreak.

Jailbreak allows you to install unofficial Applications such as swirlyMMS, utilities to hack your iPhone etc.

My Itunes refuses to connect to apple servers in order to update my software to 2.1...is it possible for me to download the iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw file then just do a restore on my itunes with my 2.0.2 software version?

Download the original IPSW file here:

http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Restore the ORIGINAL 2.1 firmware in iTunes. When you iPhone is connected hold down the SHIFT button and click restore then select the directory where the file is.

Update your iTunes - it's outdated.

As Aqua mentioned above, download QuickPwn....

Then follow instructions in QuickPwn and your jailbreak will be successful on firmware 2.1

No carrier after Jailbreaking iPhone 3G 2.2.1

Hi

I used the iClarified tutorial to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G firmware v2.2.1:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1881

The jailbreak appears to have worked, i.e. I now have a Cydia icon, but my carrier settings have disappeared! The jailbreak has deleted the carrier configuration screen, it simply isn't there any more. Carrier info used to be displayed under Settings -> General -> Network.

How do I fix this? I obviously can't connect to my service provider's network (Vodacom) and therefore I have no cellphone service at the moment. Not very useful.

Do I need to "reverse" the jailbreak? If yes, how do I do this? Alternatively, is it possible to edit the ipsw file that I got from iclarified i.e.insert the carrier settings into the ipsw file and re-do the jailbreak with the modified ipsw file?

I'm on a Vodacom iPhone 3G 16GB 240 contract. I did the jailbreak using QuickPwn on Windows Vista Ultimate and iTunes 8.

I don't have a spare phone that I can use while I sort this out, so I am kind of in a pickle at the moment. Stuck with no phone, been googling and researching this all night (using my PC of course... can't even surf on my iphone without APN settings!) because I need to use my phone tomorrow for work.

Thanks
E
