For at least the month of December, Xbox Live Silver members will receive a very small slice of Xbox Live Gold. On Thursday, Microsoft announced the “Friendship is Free” program, which will allow Xbox Live Silver members to play eight select Xbox Live Arcade titles online for free.
Those titles are as follows:
• A Kingdom For Keflings
• Aegis Wing
• Bomberman Live
• Hardwood Hearts
• Hardwood Spades
• Uno
• Small Arms (pictured)
• Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
It is important to note that Xbox Live Silver members will still have had (or will have) to purchase these titles before taking advantage of the online functionalities.
Microsoft did not announce whether or not they had any plans to extend the program past December, either in the form of new Xbox Live Arcade games with free multiplayer, or full-fledged retail releases.
This isn’t the first time that Microsoft has experimented with giving Xbox Live Silver members a taste of Xbox Live Gold. As recent as this October, the company has been holding “Xbox Live Gold” weekends, where online multiplayer is extended to all Xbox Live members.
In addition to the “Friendship is Free” program, Microsoft also announced that it had released new content for Avatars. The content features a new winter jacket, cap, boots and gloves to place on your Avatar, and comes free of charge.
In order to find new content easier on the avatar system, Microsoft did include a “gold star” next to all new pieces of content.
