Hi guys,

Sorry, not sure if this is the place to put the post. But maybe you can assist. I'm a young guy doing my own website (starting off coz I don't want to work for a boss anymore :0 )

I would like to find out how advertising works on a website? Can any money be made from this? Or will the hits have to be tooo much to actually see any money in from this part?

Thanks guys/gals

1. Banners - Per User Click
2. Google ads - Per User Click
3. Fixed Ads - Monthly (but people will only do that if you have 1000+ users)

Conclusion
ADS will not bring in really money but helps to pay hosting fees...
You can earn like 500 - 2000 if you have 1000+ users clicking it

Hi renvilo,

A website that generates revenue from banner impressions or clicks will take a number of years before it has the volume of content and exposure required to be anything of real value (unless you have a really unique and popular niche).

You can have more success if you ask companies if they want to pay you a set amount each month to advertise on your site, but again, you will need a very popular site for them to agree :)

Best of luck, it's unfortunately by no means a get - rich - quick way of making money.

How much do you think sites like Thunda.com get paid in advertising revenue per month? It's a fairly large site, and has several sections (like thunda-dating).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the community fund on top of the page is collected from advertising revenue, and it is only a portion of the revenue collected. MyBB is a huge site in terms of active users, so I'm guessing it rakes in about... R20 000/month?

one more thing.... It will not take you to the 2010 world cup. Rather work for a boss

:D

maybe, the most income on ads are the commission ads...
eg. Take a free online quiz now ....something like can you beat mugabe IQ of 0...... (most people seen this):D and when you put in your number they kill R7.5 of airtime and the referal earns R2.5

Edit: Sorry for grammar

I hate those. That's why I never click on pop-ups, or any ads for that matter.

Having a steady contract-based advertisement revenue stream between your site and a larger company is a nice cash income supplement I'd say, in addition to what your primary business strategy is.

yap, but not that much income..
I had a site with about 300+ users per day and I had banners which i earned R220.. my hosting fee was R100... i still have it
http://www.axxess.co.za/hosting.php the S package....

Banners were only to site topic

Only? Wow I expected more... As a case study, Thunda.com states that it gets 67 000 active visits per month; if they're getting paid at the same rate you were (R220/300 visitors a day), that's only R1637 or so a month. Peanuts...

What is your website's address?

want me banned:D

Making money out of advertising is possible if you are selling banner space directly to advertiser for R 100 - 200 monthly, like safindit.co.za. Hosting Google adds (or any others) brings approximately $US 1 per 1000 page views. You will need few busy websites to make money out of advertising.

Thanks to everyone for clearing that up for me... I don't want to make millions of ads but a few extra bucks is worth the few extra time...

Thanks peeps

FYI, sites like MyBB and Thunda (used in examples) was around for YEARS before they made any real money.

If you build it, it won't mean they'll come....

If they come... you can get the advertising. Check www.lazygamer.co.za for instance. There hasn't been a decent South African based game-review site/blog since sagaming.co.za and quake2.co.za and it became popular through MyBB and others and now they have advertising on.

I'm sure he hasn't quit his day job yet but the extra income is paying for a bit more beer I think ;)
