Hey all

Any "Cybersmarters" here having issues with bandwidth evaporating?

What I mean is bandwidth just being consumed at an alarming rate.

Given the problems since last month, I have not being doing the usual download pattern usage thing, however, I have used MORE than previous month even AFTER topping up last month with 3GBs and 1GB this month.

Netlimiter seems to have issues with Windows 7 and has recorded only 300MB usage since Jan 1st - which is totally screwed... I have used more than that but nowhere near the 7GBs that CyberK@K are suggesting.

So, anyone else have similar experience? If so, what did you do?

No bandwidth issues from my side - that I know of, but haven't been keeping tabs.
But then I'm not a heavy user, so I don't find myself needing to keep tabs on my usage really :o

Yes! We too have been experiencing issues with bandwidth evaporation. It has in fact become so serious that we are now makIng this a public issue, so that others can also comment on it, and add their voices to this debacle.

We have noticed that bandwidth evaporation is much worse on hot, cloudless days. Evaporation increases by as much as 2,8 percent, according to our measurements. In other studies, users reported evaporation of between 1,6 and 2,7 percent. Clearly, this is a wide-spread phenomenon, with grave implications for Internet users in all parts of the republic.
On rainy days when we all huddle at the TV, there is no data evaporation.

We first considered building a tin-foil shelter over our house to prevent further evaporation, but then decided to instead just blame Cybersmart for this annoying problem. I mean, why should we have to figure out why this evaporation is happening to us, when we can just blame this faceless corporation for our losses? We feel we have been violated and are preparing to litigate without any further delays or procrastination.

We do not as yet have any concrete proof that Cybersmart is actually to blame for this, but we are sure some evidence will turn up. In the meantime we'll just shoot off out mouths, in a public forum, and fling wild accusations around for all to read. This is what we do, in answer to the last question in your post.

So, Cybersmarters, be aware of this new threat to your safety and your money - BANDWIDTH EVAPORATION!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!

I LOL'ed :D

Cybersmart user myself, no problem with any bandwith getting lost or overused whatsoever.

Woaaa... I made a terrible mistake in my first post in this thread. I called South Africa a "republic".

Since kilobitsperyear made his post, we are of course now offically an Idiocracy.

Come on Cybersmart - confess!! Why did you pick kilobitsperyear to experience all this Bandwidth Evaporation!! And how come I cannot find any reference to this new evil thing, Bandwidth Evaporation, in Google? Or Wikipedia? Is this a conspiracy? or just bs?

I suspect the issue is more likely his Windows 7 beta he is running does daily status updates back to the evil empire, and is the cause of his evaporating issue.

;)

Thing is though.
If his been chowing that much bandwidth.
By now, he would have had to top up on at least one occasion, as there would be no access, once you cleared your initial cap.
Unless he had gig saved up from the previous month with Capsaver.
Either way I would've contacted them ages ago if my usage looked dodge.

Are you sure that your Windows PC is not infected with some nasty malware that has made your computer part of a botnet? It is not entirely impossible.

P.S. I use Cybersmart and no bandwidth problems here.

Wow... I had no idea! Yes, now that you mention it it has been very hot lately. I have noticed some "condensation" above the router... so it is possible,

I just got a quote on a tinfoil shelter for the house, and it is very expensive! Could I not just cover the room that the modem is in?

I will try a couple of anti-evaporation measures and report back!

Hi All

I have been using my brother's IBurst for the last week due to Cybersmart issues (they show more than 6 port error resets per day on their site for me... what can one do?)... so did not see the bandwidth usage. The Cybersmart "top up" warning email messages go to a folder in Outlook via a rule and thus only seen long after the fact.

It is possible that I have used the amounts stated... what with having to restart downloads, huge browsing issues. I relied solely on torrents recently so it is possible that the uploaded data was missed by me... I often forget this and calculate the download only.

No Malware and the updates from Microsoft are all under 100MB.

Also, anyone have a Windows 7 Netlimiter solution? Mine is stuck and does not track data usage... Grrrrrrr. So I have only Cybersmart's log to go by.

Tut. Tut. Maybe Neotel after Cybersmart? Any suggestions?

Most ADSL bandwidth stats are monitored by Telkom, check on the SAIX ADSL stats page to make sure your ISP isn't ripping you off!

Hey

Tin-foiling the room is also proving to be pretty expensive... I am on the 22nd roll of thick foil and still need at least 15 more. It would be cheaper just to purchase another 20GB and try catch the "evaporated leakage" as below;

Any thoughts?

Also with CyberSmart, I use about 11 gig a month and no monitoring problems.

Maybe write down all the bytes used before you shutdown and add it together to get an accurate measurement

Excellant idea, I'd add a drip tray under it though to catch any spillage or over fill, those bits can be a little pesky to pick up. ;)
