My experience with Neotel operators

We finally have coverage in our area at the begining of this year so I cancelled our Telkom landline, a few times actually cause their operators are too thick to process a simple cancellation request. This was met with multiple follow ups and phone ins to confirm my cancellation as our phone was still active.

On to Neotel, phoned them and spoke to a operator for available packages and placed my order. Delivery was fast as I received my phone within 48 hours as promised but it all went down hill from here.

The wrong phone was delivered and after numerous calls to 0800 333636, fault was admitted (operators fault #1) and they put forward a request to deliver the correct phone and pick up the old package. It took about a week for delivery and the courier guy told me he received no instruction to pick up the
old package and that he would have to charge me to return the old packge back to Neotel. Weeks went by and after numerous calls (operators fault #2, #3, #4), no one came to pick it up and it appears the fault was never reported
after speaking to numerous operators so no action was ever taken. I had 2 active Neotel accounts and know they were going to bill me for both. I finally drove to their head office in Midrand to physically return the wrong package and request them to cancel the account on the wrong phone.

Then in late January, I phoned in to check my available bandwidth and it was revealed the package I have excludes data bundle. It turns out the operator provided wrong product information back when I enquired and placed my order
(operator fault #5). So for the past month of heavy surfing and downloading I was under the illusion of having a data bundle package. Can't wait to see the bill. Went ahead and put forward a request to ugrade to includes data bundle effective from 1 February.

Phoned Neotel over the weekend to confirm my current package and you guessed it, no such request was processed (operator fault #6)
Note that this is before February and the they said any upgrade would only be processed in the following month, which
in my case is from 1 Feb 2009.

So I phoned today, and whoopie fvkking yeah, they have (again) no record of my request for upgrade (operator fault #7)and even if they process it now, it will only begin from March 2009 so I'm still without data bundle. Moral of my experience? Neotel is not much different from Telkom. Different corporate identifies, same clueless baffoons that runs the show. Neotel (like Telkom) embraces mediocracy, laziness, anti-intellectualism and a culture of employing a bunch of ridiculously dense, bumfvKK, weasely, wancstain, fvkkking kvntz that can't be relied on for pealing a banana. This is a classic case of bringing a world class (sort of) wireless technology into Eh-frikkka and watch them fvkkk it back to oblivion.

At least you got something. I phoned last week Monday to order, haven't yet got my device. Operator said they were busy, but that I would definitely get my device last week. Never happened. They called me today to hear if I have it yet, I said no, the guy said they'd deliver today and they still haven't.

They also seemed unsure of what I had actually ordered. First asking if I had received my phone and then upon correction asking if I got my Neoflex device.

I'd be surprised if I get any device, let alone the wrong one :)

Slow processing of applications / deliveries for new customers

I too placed an order last week Monday online; received a phone call on Tuesday to confirm my order, still today no one has contacted me re a delivery.

Strange how a new operator has either no stock or did not take the time to ensure a good logistic chain... bah humbug so far to the Neotel experience.

Hell shut up and go and spam the Telkom threads, this is a discussion about Neotel and not Telkom or the World Cup

Had a rep around week before last and received my phone and flex about 4 days later, phone works but flex is still an issue but not worried yet as we cancelled iburst this month and it still feels so good :)

Modem was delivered today, but it would appear in the rush to set me up they have not done their homework (config). Signal shows good but no connection is being established.
Is there anybody have similar experiences -- What I'd like to know is if there more setup work to do than is included in their welcome letter? Points to check would also help...

Please ensure that you are using Internet Explorer 7 with the popup blocker turned off.

In addition, ensure that the switch on the back of the router is set to LAN mode.

I am not familiar with a Mac - so unable to help there. From a Vista point of view I can assist.

Why specifically ie7 with pop-up blocker turned off?

It just makes the installation smoother. Popup blocker needs to be turned off in order to apply changes once you are in the admin interface via the 192.168.0.1 address.

Another question, the letter that accompanied the modem, referred to 2 username formats:
[email protected] or [email protected]
Which one is the correct on, tried both, after reboot all lights go green, then the connect lights starts flashing, then shortly thereafter the EV-DO lights goes off, followed by the Connect light?

Use the [email protected] address and enter the password, make sure you apply the changes and then restart the router via the System settings screen (on the admin interface).

Once the correct username and password are entered your connect light should remain on as well as EVDO.

Well I guess in my case it would seem I have to rely on the 48hr promise. All changes were already implemented as you mentioned (thanks). Here's to hoping that they forgot some essential configuration.

Don't give up that easily! Boot the machine in Vista and then setup from there to get it going. I know i can assist you there - its pretty easy actually.

Sorry i cannot be of help on Mac.

Another question did you insert the Setup guide CD and follow instructions there? And di you follow the welcome letter instructions precisely (save for the [email protected] bit)?

The number format you show in your response is a digit short compare to the one provided - i.e. [email protected] as opposed the [email protected] shown in your reply.

My connection to the router is via WIFI, also tried via ethernet cable. Will as you suggest boot into Vista and try my luck with that.
I also take it that this screen on the router should not be showing all zeros (i.e. populated once the connection works):

WAN Port
MAC Address 00:xx:xx:00:00:03
IP Address 0.0.0.0
Remote IP Address 0.0.0.0
DNS Primary IP Address from PPP 0.0.0.0
DNS Secondary IP Address from PPP 0.0.0.0

Going offline for a bit to give it a try in Vista -- otherwise tomorrow it's me an the call centre, spent around 1hr30min today with no luck.
