Vodacom iPhone 8GB Special, for Real?

Well I also saw that and thought huh not too bad... they show its 3G capable but I doubt it’s the iPhone 3G though.... Can someone clarify this?
 
I got a 8gb iphone free on a talk 100 package last week.

They don't sell the old 2G iphones anymore and these were never available from vodacom only from grey importers.

It has to be the iPhone 3G, Vodacom never brought in the 1st Gen iPhone...
 
Well I am in then I have had enough bad service from mtn I am porting from them as we speak.... to get a Iphone. What do you pay on talk 100 p/m???

Yup, it is a good deal. From the R2000+ pay-in to R0 is very good. I suspect it may have something to do with this.

I only paid the R150 upgrade charge (that you always have to pay when you do an upgrade). I got my phone from cellucity in Tyger Valley. I think all vodacom service provider affiliated shops have the deal as I saw the sales guy was using the vodacom direct dealer web site to do the upgrade and it was listed free on there. The sales guy told me the deal started last week thursday.

It is a pity we have to do with a watered-down version.

No CoverFlow, no Visual Voicemail, no access to the really good apps, and no genius sidebar in iTunes (did I miss anything?) - because we live in SA.

Coverflow works, couldn't care about visual voicemail, if you really want it vodacom will send you an sms of your voicemail message (at a cost). A little googling and some friendly help in the iPhone thread will get you setup with a US iTunes account and off you go. Can't comment on genius bar as it's not something I am interested in.

If you create a US Itunes account you get access to genius sidebar and album covers etc. You also get access to a lot more free apps in the app store. I used the info in this thread to create a US account without needing a US credit card.

The phone is not the 3G one...please make sure you know what you are getting.
I'ts cheap for a reason.
 
Well i've just confirmed with the head of sales from Smartcom that the phone is indeed the iphone 3G.

Did you actually look at the site before making a comment? Please make sure you know what you're talking about before making stupid statements. It is the 3G one.
