I've got Ubuntu 8.10 installed with the Kde 4.1 Desktop manager.

The problem I'm having is that my icons (next to the clock) in the taskbar looks garbled! You can't see what they should look like and need to hover your mouse over them to display correctly... What could be the problem and is there any way of fixing this? Could this be the display drivers I'm using? (Nvidia 177 accelerated display drivers [recommended])

Agreed! This thread is useless without pictures! :D

Hang on, I'll get on quick...

Thats a hectic picture any way as too your problem think you should upgrade too kde 4.2 4.1 was buggy and full of issues

I've been doing some upgrades, and now I'm seeing something like that too

I'm not seeing it on my work machine (nvidia 177.8 compatible, not recommended). Home machine: 173.14.12 (recommended & compatible)

So what do you suggest? I should downgrade my display drivers to 173 instead? Perhaps the display drivers are causing this problem?

After 225mb's updates I'm finally on KDE 4.2 and loads of others has been updated too. The problem is solved! They reworked the taskbar completely and seems that that was one of the problems issued!

Tx for all the suggestions!

I know you've upgraded to 4.2, but for those still on 4.1, this seems to be a bug somewhere between Qt4, the taskbar manager and the nvidia drivers. A workaround is to switch to a console (ctrl-alt-f1) and then back to the GUI (ctrl-alt-f7). This redraws the whole screen including the icons. I've been running for about 6 hours now and they haven't broken again.
