Whats the point of going from 6 to 8 pin? I mean, its using the same amount of power isn't it? or is the extra 2 thingies for more wattages or what? I are n00bz

Sorry to sounds as DIM as I am...but what is this needed for? Taking the 6 pin graphics card power to the new 8 pin graphics card power?

Eish, so probably better to get a new PSU then, unless a Molex to 8-pin will be OK with current PSU.
 
Ok so im sitting with the same problem. I have a modular PSU which now only has molex connections left open. The card(9800GX2) needs both a 6 pin connector(which is already there) and a 8 pin connector. So anyone know where to find Molex to 8 pin adapters...? A actual store preferebly...?

Anyone know of any places in JHB other than prophecy which stock the 6 to 8 pin PCIE converters?
 
Make your own one, i did so today, will test it out tomorrow morning when i get my card and tell you whether or not it works, just google "make 8 pin pci express power cable".

You're going to have to have a spare 6 pin connector or a spare 20/24pin mobo power cable lying around though

i would guess that 6pin to 8 pin adapter will work.
 
Haha! Thats the exact same site i visited today!

i've made my adapter, just need to test it out now, i'm sure it will work, don't see why not...
 
VGA power cables are less than R10 each, why go to all that hassle making your own?
