Hi Everyone

I recently did a fresh install of xp, and didn't bother to back up my drivers, as I have bought a new pc and have the driver cds. Now, for some wierd reason, my sound drivers won't install and it is driving me nuts.

I have a biostar G31-M7 motherboard with onboard sound, Realtek. When installing the drivers from the cd, everything seems well, it asks to reboot, but still afterwards windows doesn't detect any audio device.

I have tried almost everything from extracting the exe, and installing driver via add hardward, still it won't work. I must have downloaded 20 diffrent realtek drivers.

Any advice?? I am at the end of my rope. Does anybody else have a motherboard like this?

Have you tried to update via the net? Long shot....

Thanks for the reply, update what exactly? If you mean drivers, I have tried all versions from latest till the first version. And have tried xp with service pack 3 and service pack 2. Nothing.

What I mean is, go to add new hardware - when the wizard comes up, choose to search the internet for drivers via windows.

Might work. But a long shot.

Else go to your boards manufacturers website and download the updated version there.

GL :)

Why do people bother using drivers from the motherboard or gfx card manufacturers sites as they are usually outdated and after x amount of time they simply don't even bother anymore?

Go to the chipset manufacturers page and get the latest drivers from them, the Realtek ones were last updated 3 days ago!

If that link does not work try this one, http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Might need to install the Microsoft UAA High Definition Bus Driver (google it) first before the Realtek drivers find the HD audio device.

Good luck :)

This could be a stupid thought but have you tried setting up your sound card after installing drivers using the realtek audio configuration tool in control panel.Maybe all you need to do is set up the jacks properly.I remember i needed to set mine to line out.Give it a shot what you gotta lose???

I had exactly the same problem and this worked, though my error occured during the installation. The problem lies with the Microsoft driver. There is a patch that you must install first, before installing the RealTek drivers.

Many thanks

Thanks for every bodies replies. I have managed to fix it. This is how I did it, I searched pirate bay for "realtek", which came up with two modified/crack/hacked copies of xp, one called "vista edition", and the other one "windows xp ultra edition". The ultra edition had the realtek drivers installed. So after installing the modified/crack/hacked copy of xp, I just ran my driver disc and there you go.

Strange how my normal legal copy of xp, would not accept the driver. No well, I guess I will just put all my hopes in Windows 7.
