President Jacob Zuma has named former SA National Defence Force chief General Siphiwe Nyanda as the new minister of communications. He replaces Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, who passed away in March.

Will be updated the story through the course of Sunday afternoon...

Oh My ...? Did not even notice. Sad but then..... her legazcy remains

Hope Nyande is as effective as his name sounds but looking at the state of the defence force/industry atm I have no hope in hell that we would see an improvement in the communications field any time soon....that means this centuary?

One of the Vula boys. Purely a political appointment to reward a long standing comrade.

Well said - I guess they dumped him at communication as he already has business in the defence industry, so they avoided conflict of interest

how the fsck does the former NDF chief remotely qualify to be involved with telecoms??

Exactly what I thought. How stupid can you get?? Telecommunications in SA isn't going to improve it seems from this. We'll have to wait and see.

Politics: The only job where you don't need any qualifications.

So even JZ doesn't see communications as an
important enough portfolio to warrant too much thought into who he gives it to.

How about Manuel not being finance minister anymore and being moved to planning. Do you think it's a good idea?

This was a 100% political oppointment. Sad because I think we are in for troubled water with this guy...
