Why is Telkom so highly rated? South Africans rated Telkom the top telecoms company in the world. We wanted to know, how is this possible when their seem to be so many complaints about the service.

Organisation: Telkom

I am finding it very hard to get my head around this one. Just proves how far we still have to go to let South Africans know how they are being blinded by sheer ignorance!

Telkom is one of the WORST companies in the world and people here just don't know what is up! Naturally because they do not have access to other info!

I need a moment...

Cheers

How can people (a majority assumably) vote Telkom as "the top telecoms company in the world" having not experienced any other telecommunication companies?

P.S. Am I missing something here, when/where did this vote take place?

*blank stare at monitor*

Has nothing to do with service but there financials. Since deregulation worldwide Telecoms companies have been performing badly. Back here in SA though protected Telkom is looking fine after consolidating Vodacom. I am still waiting to see Telkom's share price when everybody jumps ship when the time comes :D

Hmmm...

Valid point MansoN.

It shouldn't really susprise us that Telkom was voted top telecomms company in the world by South Africans considering that it's the only one they know and they have nothing to compare it to.

It's quite mind blowing that a survey on this was actually paid for by someone, let alone conducted!

I wonder how many people were actually asked for their opinions for this survey anyway?

ROFL ROFL ROFL - surely this is a joke...(sadly not)

All I can say is this is one of those hilariously scary moments, much the same as ABSA being voted the best bank :(

I'm sure that even ex-pats would've voted Telkomonopoly as being the worst telecoms company in the world.

I'm thinking Steve White-lies conducted this survey - he personally surveyed himself over & over & over & over again...

Fits of laughter having somewhat subsided now, I am thinking Steve White-lies only surveyed Telkomonopoly's shareholders!!!

This thought insprired by Edinetz's post.

My (and probably everyone else's) sentiments exactly

Those that aren't to be retrenched that is !!!!!!!!!

Look, you have to be realistic about this. There is not point in ridiculing and not understanding.

Telkom was voted the best. It's called MARKETING. Telkom markets itself bloody well. Lok around you. Firstly, Telkom is sponsoring everything from Township soccer, to international arts festivals. Secondly, those commercials makes me all fuzzy inside. Thirdly, those billboards makes me feel patriotic. Fourthly, those hidden costs is so well hidden, that people actually confuse themselves to such an extent, that logic relents and payment is made.

I'm not ashamed to say that about a year or two ago, i would've voted for Telkom. The thing that made me ask question is that damn phone bill. It just grew and grew, and two years later, i am surfing this site and laughing at the thought that Telkom was voted the best, whilst at the same time, crying cause i know that Telkom execx are smilling right now, especially that damn marketing department.

The thing is, most people do not know 0.5% of what i know. That is key. Informing the masses.

It just makes me laugh, seriously...and at the same time it pisses me off. We have the most expensive and the most unreliable service and there are idiots rating Telkom to be good. I can't believe it.

go to hellkom Telkom

Without debating knowledge levels & such, I would like to point out that in a monopolistic environment the monopoly does not need marketing - it just needs to provide something that its target market cannot get anywhere else. As to the warm & fuzzy feeling that some people seem to get from Telkomonopoly ads - b1tch slap yourself awake man...:D
