I've just noticed an MWeb advertisment in the newspaper:
Its offering an iPhone 3G 8GB on “Business Call” for R185 per month, subject to signing a 24month contract with no included minutes. But this works out at the iPhone costing R4440.00 (R185 x24months). iPhone's cost between R6k and R7k at Incredible, iStore etc

Am I missing something here  I know that a new iPhone is likely to be launched very soon... but this seems very tempting.

They had that deal a while ago but stopped it again. I don't think it's available.

I just got that deal except I went for the Talk130 @ R315 as I need the minutes - still was a dam good bargain I think.

Don't forget the time value of money :D
With an interest rate of around 12% pa, it actually only costs around R3900....I think
Guess that makes it even more tempting.

Yep the R185 x 24 months or the R315 x 24 months on the Talk 130 package is true. I called a couple of times to ask if there was a pay in. They've confirmed its free on these packages. With the time value of money I'm not sure why someone would spend R 6K - R 7K on the phone upfront. I've gone for the Talk 130 package .. phone arrives Mon / Tue. With MWEB there's 300 wifi mins included - handy when traveling.

So it's still available? Sounds very tempting to me, only thing is, we will see a new iPhone pretty soon @ WWDC

Got this deal for myself and my fiance thru cellucity @ melrose arch, needless to say we are both SO happy with our 2 iphones - what a pleasure compared to the HTC Diamond.
As for the new versions, after software 3.0 I think all users of 3g iphones and up are going to be content - unless you want/need 32gigs of space...

Another reason to believe their is a new iPhone that will be released soon...

Clearance of old stock...

This is probably a silly question, but are these phones network locked to Vodacom? Is there a way to get them unlocked by Vodacom for a fee? It's almost worth taking out this contract just to get the iPhone. Are there any penalties for buying out your contract early?

Also from what I have been reading, it seems the GPS is more of a toy than useful for navigating your way through the streets of Jo'burg with step by step navigation. Is this true?

I have also read rumors about the possibility of the new version having a slide out keyboard, anybody think this is a possibility?

To answer the above questions.

iPhones sold in SA are NOT network locked

Navigation is limited at the moment yes.

No slide out keyboard I rate.. Let's get real...

Yes it is very legit. Mine is on order. Just a few more days and I will be sporting my Apple Iphone 3G 8GB. I already have the Jailbreak software and everything :D

Got one as well - but 1st mont's bill is a bit of a shocker - charge you for the month in which you applied, AS WELL as the next month! R400!

mmm...I wonder if it's still a good deal. I could get that or look out for a 3G iPhone and buy is outright for R3000-4000

Do you think it's worth it do get a contract for the warranty or any other reason?
